Dad just called & said he called the rescue squad for mom @ the beach for a nose bleed? Said it was pretty bad. "Nothing like he had ever seen before".

Now, she's had nose bleeds before but not to this extent. Dad is FREAKING out. i personally have never seen her have a nose bleed before.

So.... (that I dont' jump in the car and drive 3 hours away), mom is fairly healthy, doesn't do drugs, don't even drink, she's 5"0 flat footed, doesnt smoke, has had some issues with HER mom (my GMA) who is dying in a rest home... so what could be the problem???

    Is she just stressed out???

I'm getting ready to jump in the car and head down east.
    It's my mamma ya know?

My son once had a nosebleed so bad I took him to the ER. It just bled and bled and hew was only four so I completely freaked out. It turned out to be a sinus infection--at the time I was convinced it was a brain tumor or something worse. The doctor said sometimes noses will just bleed that badly. I felt silly after the fact but at the time I was terrified. Hope it is something simple for your mom as well.

Harley, it's probably something minor. She may have burst a blood vessel in her nose. DS had a BAD one a couple years ago, we were trying to keep him calm while we were freaking out ourselves. It took about an hour to get it to stop. We figured it was just the really dry air from the heat at the inlaws. I'd just let the ER figure it out, then drive down if you need too. There isn't anything you can do, other than wait with them. They'll have it figured out by the time you would get there.

    Thoughts and prayers! :grouphug:

She has always had sinus infections, problems, issues (you name it).

They were painiting today @ the beach house and I'm sure that has somthing to do with it. (note: not a DR!)

    Thanks girlies for the advise.

Of course everything I look up on the internet ~ everyone is dying. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Yep! The paint is probably the culprit! I can give myself bronchitis if I'm not careful just by not ventilating the bathroom properly when I clean it. :? I feel sure she will be fine.

Daddy is supposed to call me back when the DR comes in

I'm getting ready to FREAK out!!

Really?? I NEVER thought of that! We have hard water that so called "green" cleaners won't touch.

HG, try not to worry, but I understand how you feel! I've made two flying trips to PA in recent years for my Mom.

Daddy called @ 6:00 this morning to let me know they were back home in Wendell and that they were exausted and were going to try & get some sleep.

Just got off the phone with him & mom again and it seems that with her SINUS INFECTION she just had MIXED with the painting they were doing @ the beach house, she had an allergic reaction that caused her to bleed out.

She goes to her regular Dr Monday to get this thing out of her nose which is supposed to scab up the nostril? I don't know.

Going to Wendell to see them in a little while.
    Oh and today's their anniversary!

I know this sounds absolutely crazy but I read this in the People's Pharmacy column in the paper years ago and it has always stuck with me.

They said that if a person has a nosebleed that will not stop you should drop your cold car keys down their back. I know that sounds stupid but they had a LOT of teachers to write in and say that they have had to do that before when their students had nose bleeds that would not stop. They swear it works. No one can really explain why but it's probably worth a try next time.

Sorry I didn't read this thread early enough to help your mom HG, but maybe it will work next time. I hope she's doing much better today.

I thought people were crazy too, but my son gets bad nosebleeds, and the last one, someone did the key thing, and it did stop. It was amazing. It just seems crazy at the time.
