Believe it or not, my daughter & I were in Walmart some time ago. We separated our orders but we very close together & joking like we usually are. This must have been a very new employee cause when she got to the little 2x2x12 divider thingie between our orders, she picked it up, looked at it. I said "grocery separater" and she looked at me like "So". Then you guys are just going to giggle-she called for a price check. Should have seen the CSM when she asked her for a price check cause "it doesn't have one of those tags." Honestly my daughter & I looked at each other & could hardly keep a straight face. Ain't we just little meanies.:?

not too long ago we had a girl leaving the office on good terms, and so we called over to walmart to order a cake for the traditional "goodbye" party. told the lady on the phone we wanted it to say "Best Wishes Suzanne" and underneath that "We Will Miss You". here's what we got back...

LOL-- I would have cracked up then and there. Thanks for the laugh. Merry Christmas!
I've had cashiers have to ask about veggies and fruit ALL the time. Yellow squash, zuchini, kiwi to name a few.

My two favorite grocery store experiences:

    1. When we were in the meat department and I heard my daughter and her friend giggling hysterically. I asked what they were into, and they brought a chunk of meat to me with tears in their eyes from laughing. I read the label. It said....BOSTON BUTT WHOLE.

    2. We had to pick up just a few things from the store, one of them being two onions. Since we didn't have much, we used the Self-Serve check out. I put the onions on the register scale and this very professional sounding recorded lady's voice said loud and clear: PLEASE MOVE YOUR SWEET ONIONS. My daughter and I lost it right there, and folks must have thought we were nuts....afterall, how much humor can one find in produce? :)

jjganny, I don't know if your story was satirical or true, but I actually did come across a clerk at Walmart that did not know what that seperator was.... She picked it up and looked at me and I said "yeah, that's just to seperate the orders, I'm not buying it".

I guess it's a good thing you didn't buy the boston butt whole.

My story is true. What made me remember it, the night before we were in Wilson store & the salesperson was using a plastic clothes rack to separate orders.

It must be on the application for Walmart to have NO commen sense..

Me and a friend went in there and got some beer..the cashier said "I can't ring that up cuz I'm not 21", we said "ok" assuming he would get someone that COULD ring it up and we just all stood there, finally I said "ok, what are we doing?" and he said we'd have to come back and buy that later when someone else was working that register.... :banghead:

wal mart... oh yeah...the special olympics of department stores. I especially like the 102 year old 85 lb. security person that stops you to check you purchases on the way out the door. That would be effective at stopping a bad guy.

Walmart trying to stop people to check their receipts is a pet peeve of mine. I have just had a cashier ring everything up and bag it and I'm not going to stop for someone to just look at my receipt. There is no way that they can see everything in my bags, they just look down the receipt. There is no sign saying you have to stop and show receipt. Walmart owns Sam's club and I know that BJ's does this too. I just keep going if they want to see my receipt that bad they can follow me to my car and help load my groceries. This is a waste of time to me.

Thanks for letting me get that out!

Believe me I can respect your position on not tolerating what you consider stupidity.

But I have to ask why do you shop there? If you go there because of "low prices", this program is one of the reasons they believe they can provide those prices. If you are not willing to put up with this "cost" or allow these people to do their jobs you should shop elsewhere.

Regarding the effectiveness of the program, I question the equivalent program at the airport every time I am going through security at the airport. I tolerate it because I have no choice but to use the airport, the people have a job to do, and I imagine it might persuade some idiot from trying to take something they shouldn't on board. I have however told TSA Management what I thought of their process.

I believe that program is in part to prevent theft by those cashiers. Many of the losses are due to inside theft including the kind where the cashier only pretends to scan
an item at checkout for friends and relatives. The other prevention is slipping items into the cart without passing it through the cashier. The "counter" is a low tech but also lower cost solution to this type of problem.

    http://www.fibre2fashion.com/industry-article/7/652/retail-shrinkage1.asp

    Employee Theft:

Also known as internal shrinkage, this is caused by the employees of the store such as pilfering merchandise, cash, provisions etc. Employee theft and embezzlement of accounts cause almost half of the total retail shrinkage. Cashier caused shrinkage occurs in ways of wrong recording of transactions, forging receipts, misuse of the register or computer etc and accounts for almost 61 percent of the total employee caused shrinkage. 95 percent of businesses experience employee theft and 75 percent of theft goes unnoticed. This problem is a hard nut to crack due to lack of visibility of the transaction. CCTV monitoring, good store surveillance and maintaining good relations with employee will help to restrict this practice.
