For the last few months our service goes out a LOT. I'm wondering if it's something to do with Embarq or maybe the modem is going bad?

I'm computer illiterate so any advice would be great! Also, if you have any suggestions for someone better than Embarq I'm open to that too.

We had Sprint/Embarq when they first started in our area. We just hated it...it seemed slow to us, was always kicking us off and the response was slow to none. Love Roadrunner. We have Roadrunner Medic downloaded on our computers and it fixes problems if something goes wrong.

    Good luck,
    Sherry

I have had it now for almost 5 years and I have never been kicked off nor do I think it slows us down. My roommate uses Cable and it takes her longer to log on then it does me..I have no trouble at all.

    No problems here.

The modem may need to be replaced, call them and they might send you a new one for FREE!!

I know they were having problems with it yesterday, I called and it was out of service for a bit, they have replaced my modem twice for free but our phone cords in the ground had to be replaced as well. Good Luck!

If you call them, they can diagnose your problem over the phone. We were having problems and called and they said our modem was ANCIENT and sent us a new one immediately!!

Had a problem (with the DSL service) called tech support (which is awesome) and was able to fix it pronto.

Email this year was out once or twice for a day/half day, not sure what the reason, but my email at work goes out more than that! (on Dockpoint there)

They were having issues yesterday. While they have had more this year than the past, they have always been quick to fix it in my area. I have had to get one new modem since getting service 2 years ago and they will send you a new one for free.

Working great for me. I have had it for about 2 years. It was having problems yesterday morning, but that because level 3 was having major problems in DC. So it was not just embarq yesterday. I have been very happy with the service. I would contact tech support they have always been very helpful. As for speed, it very fast for me, I just upgraded last week to the 10 Mb service. I have Roadrunner as well, and Embarq with the 10Mb speed is much faster. Call tech support though, if they cannot fix it on the phone, they will sent out a tech.

We've had DSL through Embarq (first Sprint) since it was available in our area. For a long time we had almost no problems, then for the last 6-8 months, we would lose the internet connection several times each evening. After several go-rounds with tech support, I finally got someone who knew his stuff. Like with several other posters, they said our modem was old, no longer supported, and sent us a new one. Since then the reliability has been much better. We still have occasional problems. It is not as reliable as it was years ago, but it is acceptable now.

I've avoided cable forever because I have this personal issue with Time-Warner. I hate their customer service and would prefer never to give this company any more of my money. Embarq is not quite as good with customer service as Sprint was (at least in my experience) but I still prefer them to TWC.

    Embarq

I do not use Embarq for Internet (Unfortunatly I use TWC), but I do use Embarq for my residential telephone service. I do not like Embarq's telephone svc, and their billing cycles are really weird Get a bill in, same day get an automated call about said bill. But what are you going to do? I need a home phone so it is what it is.

I finally got around to calling Embarq today and they said I have the latest modem. They think my problem is because I don't use the filters on my phones. I'm gonna try to find them and install them again and see if that fixes the problem. I'll let you know!

We've used the filters since we got Embarq, 3-4 yrs ago? And have not had any problems until recently started getting dropped or really slow sometimes, and then we started having lots static on our phones lines. They ended up sending new filters, and that fixed the problem. So hopefully that will fix your problems too! 8)

Been using DSL since it came to the area. Had a few prob's here and there but nothing that wasn't fixed.

Your modem should be a 660 series. Make sure you havent changed out the phone cord that came with the modem. It's a black one. If you have a router in the mix check the settings on it. Google 'router optimization' for setting tweaks you can do. Add your router model number to the search.

Would 'router optimization' work with Road Runner as well? Not that we get kicked off often but just to check settings. Having problems with the Printer Server (?) but am glad they came out with wireless printers.

    Thanks,
    Sherry

We've had it for a while now and have been very happy with it. We did have a problem initially, but replacing the modem fixed that. The other thing is to turn off the modem every now and then (I heard the same from roadrunner users as well). That seems to keep it running fine.
I may still have one or two of those filters around here somewhere. I installed all the ones I needed.

I know of a business in Clayton that was screwed for about 2 months because they went with Embark. something went wrong and they never fixed the problems. I won't use them because of the obnoxious business practices of Sprint toward their serfs...uh...excuse me...customers. But that's just me. I have satellite internet, which has its own problems. At least I can count on the company doing what they say they will, and charging what they say they'll charge.
