The empty lot is a leach field (think thats the term) for 2 or 3 homes in our subdivision, so it will never be built on. No one took care of it, so DH and one other neighbor (the one who lives next door to the kid with the bike) pitched in to keep it clean for the most part. A couple years back they (DH and nice neighbor) started planting extra shrubs/flowers over there and it looked really nice, sort of like a little park, nice and shady with some lovely plantings - BUT then someone brought a few resin chairs in and it became a 'party place' for kids and we'd find empty beer cans and chip bags littering the place up, so ceased the beautification work and just maintain it for bug control these days.
IF you are in a subdivision what about the ordinances of it? I know I didn't spell that right or the HOA? Don't know much about that stuff, I've always lived in the country. If you two neigbors banned together couldn't yall put of some kind of fense or border? I got an idea, string some line and let him cloths line himself :jester: Sorry for the spelling.
We had this exact same problem, we are outside the city limits so we called the sheriffs office and they came right out and talked to the people. For the most part it has stopped but every once in a while we will hear them but it doesnt last very long. Good luck!
Someone owns the lot, check on the Johnston County GIS system. Then you will have an ally in your fight. He is only going across your lot, I bet he is tearing the empty lot up. I had this problem several years ago, I spoke to the boy's mother, no more problem. It dosen't sound like you will be that lucky.
That's an excellent point. If you can make contact with that owner and have them put up no trespassing signs.
If he's crossing over your property, that's tresspassing. Handle it however you care. As for the stealing of gas, maybe leave a gallon can of desel outside instead of reg gas. That'll mess up his fuel system better than sugar, 2 stroke or 4. A kid like this sounds like the type that'll ignore a sign, still post 'em. Mike
Ya know, that's a sterling idea! It wouldn't be vandalism if I leave a can of diesel outside my garage and someone steals it suspecting it's unleaded gasoline. . .It isn't vicious at all. The thief would suffer for stealing and I wouldn't have a thing to feel guilty about, nor have to deal with the law over. Thank you! To the others who suggested tracking down the owner of the land via JC GIS, - will take that advice too.
Actually, what you just suggested is against the law unless the line is flagged and the land is posted and even then the law might see that the line was strung up as intention to harm another person, very slippery slope here. I think she just wants the kid to stay off her land not kill him, which is what could happen with your suggestion.
I took cds line suggestion in the tongue-in-cheek manner I think they intended. I really like Mike's suggestion and think that it may well solve all of my problems - legally and teaching a little lesson in character at the same time. Of course, I do plan on getting locking gas caps for our vehicles first - just in case the kid wants retribution for being a stupid thief.
I'm surprised you thought she was serious. I mean sometimes joking isn't too clear around here, but this was not one of those times IMO. Especially with the joker at the end.
I really like the leaving the Diesel idea! I'd put my mower beside the can so it looked like I was filling it up and forgot to take in the can or something. You can borrow my 4-wheeler (louder than any Harley) and rip through his yard one night Or get infront of him and cover him in dirt a few times. He'll get the message.
Didn't quite think anyone was truly serious about doing this just wasn't totally sure. Not knowing someone personally makes it hard to know what to take as serious and what not to when your on a public forum. There are some things you just don't joke about, IMHO.
