Now the thing with them at times the product varies, but best my memory serves me I seen Herrs there.
But can you set it for christian owned/operated websites/content? N/M. I will keep my idea for myself. It will catch on, you'll see! <shakes fist at Clif>
No, but tracking every single website and getting it approved for content from Christian groups would be one heck of a task. The first question would be, which Christian group would be approving the site? Baptist? (God forbid, Westboro Baptist?) Catholic? Non-denominational?
When you come up with something let me know! I"ve got a GREAT idea for pet lovers but just dont know how to patent it ~ I'd be rich!
Easy. Clif's. Since it would be your site. And yes, there would be work involved... that is why they call it "work".
One for our aging population and compatible with the economic downturn might be a web site similar to www.orbitz.com except that instead of acting as a travel broker you have a site that Brokers drugs (as opposed to selling them).
I had the grand idea years ago to develop a site that would act as a general gift registry. I hate buying someone a gift and not having any idea what they may really want/need or be into. Then I found www.findgift.com which is pretty much what I was hoping to do but on a larger scheme. I do love that site around Christmas time for ideas!
I like this (I'd use it myself, if it were available). Let me ponder how it would work (from the development side).
Clif, I thought about your question and brainstormed with the teen and others. Here is something that we came up with. Social networks are the rage and yes they can be linked so that messages and all are easy to get. The top three are Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. MySpace allows members to customize their website. They can make any expression their own and people really like that. Facebook does allow the same process but not on the main page. One can only do that in a behind the scenes area and most people don't look at that area of Facebook. Twitter is similar to MySpace but still needs layouts. If someone could develop layouts for Facebook, MySpace and Twitter than allow them to customize their own sites we believe it would be awesome. The layouts, if possible, could be programmed in so that if a person has an account on all three social networks the code could just be copied and pasted. Facebook has a News Feed, which needs to be blocked if a person does not want everyone to know that the user changes something on their site. The news feed gets on some people's nerves because if they are dating someone and change their status to single that feeds into the news feed and all of that person's friends see it immediately. Understanding that this is a Facebook problem and not a layout it seems as though nothing is private when a user does something. Maybe in the layout development it could stop that feed unless the user wants to use it at times. Just our first thoughts as we are continuing to brainstorm. Sherry
So, are you talking about something like a generic layout generator that a person can use to create a single layout that can be applied to all three social networking sites?
What would be a really useful site would be something of a robot program that will go out and look at the social networking sites and the internet in general and present that information to the user in a format that a potential employer might use. It could be a tool for both an employer and the applicant. You could have a free version that offers one or two really embarrassing pieces of info and then for a $25 fee the full report.
This is just one site that supplies layouts for people to choose from to have a specific layout on MySpace. Some people change layouts by season, elections, etc. Facebook and Twitter do not allow this same kind of thing yet. Someone needs to jump on it and make sure that the user can use that same code on all three networking sites, if they want too. http://www.freecodesource.com/ Sherry
Yes, Hugh has a great idea as well. Not only employers but the North Carolina School of Science and Math told us in orientation that they check the networking sites, email addresses and all when applicants apply as do the colleges. If you did something like Hugh is suggesting I have a person who could help think it through from his experience as a retired Intelligence and Counter-Intelligence Officer. He is a firm believer and has done background checks. Sherry
I can't change someone's layout unless they allow it to be changed (as MySpace does). Oh, and I don't like the idea of data mining social networking sites. I think it's a privacy issue, and if it's not against the law, it should be.
I can respect your position, however it is being done and will continue to be an easy method to do a simple vet of a candidate. If nothing else do it for the potential employee only and only with their approval. Actually it is one of the things I am required to audit for when working in the Chemical industry, that some kind of background check is done (usually those involve a PI).
