This is just a word of advice to EVERYONE, please photo all the rooms of your residence. Make sure you have all your big items included. It will help you remember and serve as proof of ownership. I have insurance with State Farm and they have a form you can use for your items. They said nothing about proof of purchase.

Also I am very sorry this has happened to you, my Thoughts and Prayers go to you and yours.. Let us know if we can help, don't be afraid to ask.

    A FRIEND

Thanks to everyone for your support and your advice.

As for a police report, my smart kidlet called 911 as soon as she called me at work, and the Garner police were here already at work on the scene by the time I pulled up. There is black fingerprint "stuff" all over the house where they dusted.

I called my insurance agent and she said to create a list of all that is missing, and I gave her the police report number. I'm working on the list now.

Harley...I will be contacting you once I get things put back together here, to discuss options for security. I never want to go through this again.

Thanks again to everyone. And thank goodness my daughter had her laptop with her. It's our one computer now.

Mag, first of all I am so very sorry! Secondly, most homeowners policies in NC are for replacement cost on contents. Basically, if you replace it, they'll give you what it costs to replace the item within the limits of your policies. There are some limitations on items used for business purposes (if any of the computers were). Start pricing items now, find as many receipts as you can.

I am so sorry you're going thru this!

Smart teen you have raised. Glad to see you have a plan. A little off topic...so do they dust for fingerprints and then leave that behind? Is it easy to clean up? Just inquiring because all I have to go on is seeing them do that on television and I never thought about having to clean it up.

    Proud of your kidlet,
    Sherry

Sorry this happened to you, I know it makes you feel violated. I don't have any advice, other than what has already been offered, just wanted to put in a word of encouragement. You seem to be a strong person, and I'm sure you and your daughter will handle this just fine, although it won't be easy.

Very sorry this happened, I've never had a home broken in to, but back in the late 70's I had my car stolen. While it was recovered (kids took it for a joy ride and then rode it up onto a huge rock garden where it got stuck and then they proceeded to cut out the headliner, smash the dashboard and pour beer all over the inside of it :( sadly, it wasn't quite 'totaled' and never ran the same after ) I know how sick I felt driving in it afterward - it is indeed a violation that's hard to shake.

I hope that you and your daughter will soon feel safe and secure. As others mentioned, a security system might be a good thing to invest in, that or a big dog - or both.

Hope they get the ----My Friend that broke in and recover your items.

    Hugs :grouphug:

Sorry to hear of your Home being broken into. As for the Items and valuation, just a thought but maybe you can go online and find a dollar value for the items (E Bay)?- or even call local pawn shops and ask if they can provide you with a valuation of your property based on when it was purchased. There are so many people out in the world today that prey on other people and do terrible things like rob and hurt people. Be thankful no one was hurt and remember that God don't like ugly,- they will pay in the end.

Sorry to hear that Mag. It happened to us many years ago.

I do agree that everyone should have a gun, but if she had a gun, wouldn't the crooks have it now?

If you plan on having a gun, have a GOOD Hiding spot on the bedroom, behind the Dresser, etc... But, You will all feel much safer after getting a Security system. You can get motion and glass break detection.

Dang Mags.. I'm sorry all this has happened to your family. I hope they catch them. I wonder if you could check out the pawn shops and see if any of your stuff ended up there. Maybe they get the sellers info? I don't know how pawn shops work...

Which subdivision did it happened? I think it would be a good idea to have a neighborhood watch program in your area. One of the policeman can help you get started.
