Monday Morning just after 1am my Dad was robbed at gunpoint by two men wearing dark masks at his home. They took his wallet & all that was in it. They got $1200, his credit cards & bank cards. He realizes it was a mistake now - but he also had a small slip of paper with his pin# in his wallet. He somehow thought that if it was in a different compartment than his bank card, that all would be OK. The police have done very little. The robbers attempted to use the bank card at 3 tellers within a couple of hours of the robbery. They were successful in getting $300 from the 1st bank. The cameras did get an image of the guys but their faces were covered with masks - so it wasn't very helpful. I've called the businesses near the bank machine but none have cameras so we still have no idea what their car looks like. The bank with the other tellers says it will be 2 weeks before they can get the pictures back to Charlotte, NC to view the tapes. I told them I would gladly drive the tapes myself or pay for FedEx ... whatever, but they say due to procedures & chains of evidence, we'll just have to be patient & wait????? I guess I've watched too much CSI & TruTV ... I just don't understand how it could take in excess of 2 weeks to do this. In any case, my Dad is a wreck. I hate that I live so far away. I've been talking with him each evening and he's been worried & scared to go to sleep. He's carrying a gun with him in the house everywhere he goes. He's sure they bad guys are coming back for him. The police are doing NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!! Since Monday, I've been saying the good part of all this is that my Dad wasn't hurt too badly & money can be replaced. My dad had his 3rd heart attack a couple of years ago. Just yesterday my sister & I were saying we were amazed the robbery itself didn't cause heart problems ... but it looks like now all of the stress has. These jerks were holding a gun to his head ... but he made it through. I've tried talking him into staying with me for a bit ... hoping the police would catch the bad guys and my Dad could feel a little safer at home again. Today is my Dad's 61st birthday. I just got a call from my sister a couple of hours ago saying my Dad was in an ambulance headed for the hospital ... heart attack. The stress from this is going to kill him. I hate that I live so far away. I HATE rotten theives who are too lazy to get a job ... who think its OK to take from others ... who don't care who they hurt just to get a few bucks. I hope they rot in hell.

My Dad lives in a small town in South Carolina. The local cops say nothing like this has happened before. I don't even think they believed it happened at all until my sister brought them a picture of the thieves pulling money out of the teller. No kidding .... the police didn't do anything Monday other than put in a report. My sister has visited all of the banks & I called all of the nearby businesses. The cops said they are sure it was just a random robbery & no one in town could have been responsible??? Get real!!! Of course it was someone familiar with my Dad. He is one of those folks who likes to collect cars. There 5 cars in his yard at any given time. Unless the robbers were familiar with him, they would have no clue that there weren't other folks visiting. The officer I spoke with yesterday said the robbers probably just thought it was an opportunity to get more money if he had guests???? That's just silly. I'm sure the robbers knew it was just my Dad there and what his health was like. My Dad often doesn't have enough money in his wallet to even buy a pack of cigarettes. He's currently receiving disability pay, so he's not someone who would usually have a lot of money lying around. His house suffered some hail damage a while back. He has some guys there working on his roof. He went to the bank on Friday and withdrew money to pay for supplies & to pay the guys with. One of the guys stopped by to be paid on Sunday. I'd like to think this guy had nothing to do with it ... but I can't help but wonder. He went to high school with me. The police say he has been in trouble in the past for stealing, but they said it was all petty theft and that he's not the kind of guy who would use a gun. The police said if it were someone who knew Daddy was withdrawing money from the bank on Friday, the robbers would have probably robbed him Friday night before he had a chance to spend any of the money. I asked the officer if they thought the county police may be able to help ... or if maybe contacting the newspaper might create leads, but they said that would just cause more trouble??? I don't want to upset the local police, but I sure don't feel like they are doing all they should be doing. My sister said she would call the county police for help if the local police haven't done anything by tomorrow.
The economy of the town has been steadily declining over the past few years. There is a huge plant that has cut more than 50% of their work force. Businesses are closing. More & more often when I read my home papers I see stories about Meth Labs & drug busts. It's really sad.
At 1am Daddy said he thought he heard a knock at the door. His front porch light is currently out so he went to the side door and asked if anyone was there. No one answered and he decided it must have just been his imagination or the wind. He went back to watching his television. A few minutes later his Yorky started barking and he thought he heard a knock again. Daddy went back to the side door and didn't see anyone. He decided to walk around to the front of the house to see if there was a stick or limb hitting the house. Two guys wearing masks jumped out of the bushes & attacked him. They both had guns. One guy had on a skeleton Halloween mask. Daddy said he couldn't see either of their faces, but he could see the white skin on the leg of the guy wearing the skeleton mask because the pants were too short for him.
The police say the robbery was probably random?? My Dad doesn't live on a main street off a main highway. There would be no real reason for someone to just wander down his road. He lives a couple of blocks from the police station. The town is mostly rural and spread out. Daddy actually lives in an area with a few houses - so there would have been easier targets further away from the police station. There are many homes that are nicer than his & many that are not nearby. I just can't imagine that random robbers would have just chosen his out of all the others. My Dad lives in a very small town where everyone knows everyone. It's one of those places where many people don't even lock their doors. Times are changing.

Some Good News ... Daddy is going to be OK ... or at least well enough to be released from the hospital. They drained all of the fluid from around his heart. They said the stress probably caused that?? Daddy took 4 nitro tablets when he started having pains before the ambulance got there. The hospital said between the forced oxygen, the nitro & draining the fluid all seems well now?? Unfortunately my Dad choose to go to the VA Hospital rather than the one with a better reputation but bigger bill. My sister says Daddy still looks & feels like crap, but they are sending him home. Daddy says he's not up to celebrating his birthday tonight ... but I'm just glad his birthday isn't going to be his last day. Unfortunately he still has the bad guys on his mind, but I hope he can get a little rest tonight and get to feeling a little better. The news from home seemed so glum this morning, but at least things are looking up a little :) Thanks for all the well wishes & :grouphug:'s.

If he can afford it or as a gift he could probably sleep better with motion sensor lights outside.

That will scare off those scumbags,

For his birthday he got motion sensor lights, a couple of flood lights & a new wallet. The lights were put up yesterday & the cameras will go up this weekend.
