So we are still having an ongoing issue with an itchy dog with flaky skin and bumps. Went back again today for a check up and although she is some better with the benzoil peroxide shampoo, it's far from cleared up. So more skin scraping for staph and yeast, both negative. No fleas or ticks of course, not a food allergy, previous tests for mange, mites, fungus including ring worm and God only knows what are also negative. Nothing obvious or not that obvious. I'm not sold on it being Schnuauzer skin, because now we are getting it on the neck as well as starting on a couple places on our legs. So it could be a secondary issue to the Schnuzer skin or two completely separate problems, who knows??? Since she's being spayed next week, he put her on an antibiotic for a month just to be safe as well as a new coal tar shampoo. I thought mutts were supposed to be healthier?!? ARGGG!! No advice really needed as I've done a ton of research and it appears the vet is doing all that can be done, it's just frustrating to not be able to make the dog more comfortable. She's better by far, but I'd love for it to be gone for her sake. :banghead:
I guess you've tried the capsules I mentioned in a prior thread. . .along with other things suggested as well. Sorry you and your pooch have to go through this. One final suggestion - I know you might roll your eyes, but I am a true believer in acupuncture. It literally saved my little Frankies life. Acupuncture can help in all sorts of ailments, pain and conditions - some of the stories I've heard from people who exhausted every resource and as a last resort went the acupuncture route and were amazed! Anyway - Dr. Jim Meyer is THE BEST! Sure, there are other vets that perform acupuncture in our area - I drive right past one on my way to Wendell to see Dr. Jim. The extra 10 or 12 miles is worth every second and every additional drop of gas it takes to get there. Dr. Jim calls all patients to set up appointments personally. He's kind, compassionate, knowledgeable and MOST important - he is HONEST! If he doesn't think acupuncture will help your pet he tells you in plain language. He isn't a b.s. artist out to soak you for money. Try calling him and see what he has to say. You will love this man, he is really a rare breed! Dr. Jim Meyer Neuse River Veterinary Hospital Phone (919) 365-9001 http://www.neuserivervet.com/Founders.html I was there not too long ago when Frankie was getting his "tune up" - he goes once a year now and he flys around the house, jumping on and off beds like a black streak! (with 3" long legs!) This coming from a dog I thought I was going to have to put down 3 yrs ago after a serious back injury left him unable to do anything but lay down, moan and walk a couple of steps shaking in pain - he wouldn't even eat - that's how bad off he was. It was initially 3 acupuncture sessions about 3-4 weeks apart and then 1 six months later and then 1 a year since then.
Hope your little one feels better soon, and for your sake too! And I saw your comment about my cat in the Random Thoughts thread. I do appreciate your concern, but don't you dare feel bad for venting just because my cat is having an operation. Vent away!
Sorry your little one is going thru this. I hope it gets better for ya. We take our little one to the vet tomorrow to be fixed and micro chipped.
Thanks everyone again! I was just frustrated yesterday and appreciate all my invisipeeps! Harley...............what does your MIL know ? :allears:
Update: The antibiotic seems to be doing the trick, her skin has cleared remarkably well over the last week, I can't tell you how happy I am. A little frustrating that a $15 antibiotic that could have been given a month ago (and $500) ago is what did the deed.
