How did you get over it?!? I've had this for a few months now and it's getting worse. I get this hot burning pain in the middle of my butt cheek and then it radiates down my thigh to my knee. I'm trying to lose weight so I've been trying to walk at night but tonight it was so bad I thought I was going to get sick in the middle of the road from the pain.

I'm just wondering if I need to go to my regular doctor or a chiropractor.

Any suggestions would be great as I'm in lots of pain.

I have a mild case, but I think there are several who have talked about this before on here - I tried a search, but didn't find amything.

Personally - I went to my chiro, but I was already seeing him for other problems. One thing you can do is alternate cold/hot on it for 15 min ea. I just use the cold pak most times and do not do the heat, it helps some - but still does not take it away completely. If you've had this awhile and are now starting to exercise, its prob aggrivated it. Have you tried stretching out your back before walking? Something like laying on your back and pull each knee to your chest (one at a time).
Have you googgled it? Sorry you're in pain..:grouphug:

good luck, my husband has had it since 1999, car accident, and there is nothing he can take. at times it is worst like a flare up but he is never free from pain. i have it too but it flares up every once in a while or when i lay too long on side. some people it does go away, maybe youll be one of them!

Yeah, I googled it and from what I read it will be best for me to go to the chiropractor. I've got to do something to get some relief. On a scale of 1 to 10 it's definitely a 10. Sometimes I just freeze in my tracks and can't walk for a few seconds.

I've heard about the ice thing and I'll try that tonight. From what I read it's not good to put heat on it because it may cause further swelling.

Thanks for the advice. I'm off to get an ice pack and go to bed!

Oh man, your poor husband. I would die if it lasted that long. Has he been to a chiropractor?

I googled Sciatica REMEDY and got some stuff, everything from stuff to drink and particular vitamins to take and exercises... try that...

Don't it remind you of your Grandma, with her "sciaticer flarin' up!!?" :) I know it's not funny but it's one of those things you associate with getting old. I went through a pretty good bout a year or so ago, it hurt all the time, and I could hardly drive 10 miles before the SHARP pain would start shooting down my leg. Went to chiropractor and he helped some, but went to a "real" doctor who prescribed anti-imflammatories(sp) and muscle relaxers . The combination seemed to help and I'm not sure whether it "got better" on its own , I "outgrew it" or what, but it's SO much better now. Hardly taking the drugs at all.
My vote's for the MD, and good luck and God Bless. It's can be a very painful thing.

my husband has been to all kinds of drs, pills etc, his bigger problem is fibromalgia, so he feels more pain than others and pills dont work for them. sometimes it gets so bad he has to walk down steps backward! we had to get a small suv cause it hurt too much to bend down to get in a car.:ack:

I think that's what started this whole flare up for me.

Michelle - If you remember about 6 months ago I had this and also put a thread on here. I went to Dr. Ryan Williams, Chiro, and let me tell you....

I HAVE NO MORE!!!! :hurray::hurray::hurray::hurray: It was painful for awhile and I had to go in 2-3 times a week to be adjusted, but now the only thing I have is hip pain and that only because my hip won't stay in place. ....

I hear ya....but it puts a strain on your lower back. I lost about 25lbs and it helped quite a bit.

Now that you mention it I do remember you going through that. So are your flare ups caused by your hip moving out of place? I have had that happen before and had to be adjusted for it. I'm gonna call my chiropractor today and see if they can work me in.

Chiropractor was the only thing that helped me. And I went to see all kinds of other doctors first. Even a surgeon said I should have surgery on my spine. I did not have the surgery and went to a chiropractor. Things are great now!

I have it for years and mine flares up... when I go and get a massage the massage therapist re-aligns my hips and that helps it tremendously.

I take tylenol w/codeine when its really bad, and sit positioned infront of the jets in my bathtub for a while. I did have a prescription for an anti-inflammatory, Naproxyn that didn't seem to help me at all.. and I had an awful reaction and got hives all over my body from it.

    Good luck!!

I had it bad when I was preganant. It would literally take my breath away. I worked for a physical therapy practice in Durham, so I'm going to say you should see a therapist. They actually give you exercises to do to keep it away, but if it ever does flare up again, you'll know what to do. We had people coming in with a cane, it was so bad. But, whatever choice you make, I just hope it goes away for you, I have been there.
