I'm going for the first time this weekend (hoping for good President's Day sales) and don't know what to expect. I do know that they don't sell pottery, and are more of a home goods store. Their website doesn't give a lot of information. We just bought our house in November, so you can imagine that I need just about everything. The top of my list is window treatments, decorative items, something to put on the wall above our bed (preferably wrought iron looking), and a big star for the side of our house. I would also love to find some pieces to decorate our front porch. Is this the kind of stuff that they carry? Are they expensive? Thanks!!
Forget Carolina Pottery girl. The stuff you are looking for can be found at Ross at a fraction of the cost. I've also seen the big stars at Big Lots. That's another good place to look.
Ross's is cheaper, but selection is scarce. The Pottery is alright, you can find all kinds of stuff. Just price wise they are after tourist, so prices are a little higher on some items!
I've found Carolina Pottery is great for kitchen stuff; ie dishes, silverware, gadgets, etc, and also floral arrangements and things like that. Other than that, it's just filled with a lot of "stuff". But it's a neat store, and they have Xmas stuff in there year round as well...
Alright, inquiring minds want to know!!!! What's with the giant stars? I've seen several on houses and have always wondered. Is it a religeous thing??? Is it a Dallas thing??? My Dad always told me if I didn't want to go around ignorant in life to ask questions.... so here it is - What's with the stars???!!! :?
I don't know if there is a meaning to it. I just thought that people did it for decoration. Crysta be sure to go to JR's outlet in Smithfield for some other GREAT deals. It's not at the pottery but very close by. I'm sure anyone can give you directions on how to get there. I'm horrible with directions . . . I would have you in BFE.
The stars are from the Pennsylvania Dutch, who originally painted them on their barns for good luck. We are from Pennsylvania and my mom's family includes Amish and Mennonites. My grandmother insists that we must have one on our house for luck. I doubt our HOA would appreciate us painting one, so I'm looking to buy an antique looking one. What/Where's Roses? I went to Ross and TJ Maxx tonight and didn't find anything that really interested me. I know they're hit or miss, so I'll keep trying. I also recently checked out Big Lots (we got an ottoman, some curtains and a cabinet with the 30% off). Thanks again!
Roses is like a step up from Dollar General. There is one in Fuquay Varina across from the Walmart shopping center and another in Smithfield across from KMart on 70. The one in Smithfield is bigger.
Where Staples is in the White Oak plaza was a store called Home Goods - loved going there. If you don't mind driving a little further, I believe there is one out at the Brier Creek Shopping Center.
Depends on what you're looking for. They have cheap nasty (IMO) clothes and lots of other stuff, but I bought a beautiful 8' X 11' wool area rug there that was originally priced at over $2000 for around $300. I have also found some faux stone pillars really cheap (around $15) to use on my screened porch for ferns, stuff like that. There's also a store in Dunn. I second the Big Lots comments also. Once in a while you can get awesome deals on things from stores like Pier 1. Carolina Pottery is fun to look around if you have time. Agree with DMJMom; good for cheap dishes. We bought a nice wicker patio set there last year at a good price.
You might find the star at DeWayne's, which is on the same main road as Carolina Pottery and the outlet stores. At the outlet store shopping center they have several home goods stores. Michelle mentioned JRs, which is close to the outlet stores and has lot of items. Depends on one's style and budget. Let us know if you need more suggestions. Sherry
Albeit a bit pricier than Rose's or Big Lots. I've also seen a lot of the more folk art home decor at Pier 1 over by Triangle Town. Also at Triangle Town is Kirkland's. Not as cheap as Rose's, but not that expensive. Never cared for Carolina Pottery. Home Goods was a nice store, I wish it was still here. It was a sort of sister store to TJ Maxx (owned by the same company), so they would have the same type of stuff, only TJM has a lot less.
We are PA Dutch and we have what is called a "hex sign" on our house. Here is a link that describes them: http://www.padutchculture.com/hexsigns.html We also have a kitchen witch in our kitchen: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitchen_witch Our family sent them with us, for good luck and Godspeed in our new journey path in life!
Know about hex signs and even have a kitchen witch!!! (It came with the kitchen in my aunt's/Grandmother's house). Just hadn't seen the stars until lately and didn't know what the story was. Thanks!!!
Yeah, DeWayne's is pricier but if you cannot find an item elsewhere they might have it. They also have good sales. Could call them to find out if they have the star and ask when they will have the next tent sale. Good luck, Sherry
Speaking of Kirkland's at Triangle -- at Thanksgiving time, I found there was a Kirkland's in the new plaza at Knightdale. I always find something there.
