I need to find a good therapist/counselor for my 17 year old. She is going through some normal teenage stuff (grades, career, social life) and she had her first panic attack today. I realize this is something that you may not want to post about but please feel free to send me a PM if you have a recommendation. I've called a few today and either don't get an answer or no one calls me back. Thanks!
Thank you Seabee. I'm just worried about her because I have suffered from panic attacks since I was in my early 20's and I know how horrible they are.
It much suck to be 17 and have that to deal with, not particularly fair but obviously its things people have to learn to live with and be educated on unfortunately live isn't always fair and we become who we are based on how we deal with adversity in life we are dealt. Keep positive and prayers are with you...
Rob Reinhardt... He helped my son through some very difficult times. http://robreinhardtlpc.com/index.html
Don't forget, today is President's Day, a holiday, so a lot of people might not be working today. They will all probably call you back tomorrow.
Rob Reinhardt Rob Reinhardt did a great job with my son also. I highly reccomend him. http://robreinhardtlpc.com/index.html
Have you talked to the high school counselor yet? I would start with that person and go from their. I have found them to be very helpful. Will keep you both in our thoughts. Sherry
We started with the HS counselor and she recommended outside help. Thank you all so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it. I've got her an appt. on the 26th with Cleveland Counseling Services. Only problem is they may not take my insurance and their services are not cheap. They are gonna check into it further and call me tomorrow. Thank you all for you help, kind words and suggestions. I don't know if any of you have ever suffered from panic attacks but I have for many years and they are HORRIBLE.
Please keep us abreast on the insurance part. Would hate to see good, needed, help not used because insurance will not cover it. Glad the school counselor knows. 17 is a hard age and it seems to me that teenage girls have more pressure and are more stand offish than I remember. I've been told "that this too will pass" and I can only hope it passes on your end in the best of circumstances. My teen's best friend's brother gets panic attacks and sees someone in Raleigh. His sister goes to the North Carolina School of Science and Math so he has my daughter's cell number so he can contact someone quickly at the high school. Sometimes he just needs her to talk to him for a few minutes and he calms himself down. Thoughts, Michelle...I know it is difficult for both of you. Sherry
Michelle, call Johnston County Mental Health, they can probably help your daughter, but if not they can recommend someone. I know there is a female therapist in Selma that I have heard so many good things about. Also Blue Lotus Healing in Clayton is wonderful. Good luck and I hope you and your daughter are able to get the help that she needs.
We have an appt. for next week at the place at 4042. I'll have to pay a $40 copay each visit vs. the free counseling she could get if we went in-network. The doctors that are in our network are all the way on the other side of Raleigh or in Cary and that's just too far for me to go. I'd have to leave Garner go home and then go all the way back to Raleigh or Cary. By the time I took a few hours off work to do that it would cost me more than the $40 copay so we're just gonna go with the closer person. She's home again today. It breaks my heart because she seems so down and I just can't cheer her up. Life shouldn't be so hard for a 17 year old!
So, she stayed home today because of a panic attack? I know you'll be glad to have help and see her happy again. It should be the best time of her life, prom and all. Thinking about you both, Sherry
