    It's a pretty simple concept.

    SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT!

It is apparent that drivers from Virginia will never understand this rule, but everyone else please pay attention.

    I feel better now. Thanks

I actually lived in VA for three years - loved it. What a beautiful state. I lived in Roanoke for most of that time and Richmond for a while. But really, don't they teach this in Drivers Ed?

It isn't just people from VA that don't realize the the left lane is for passing and that slower traffic is to stay to the left. There is 1 sign right around US1 that actually says that, but it is the only sign between 312 and RTP and I don't think anyone pays attention. When my oldest took drivers ed 2 years ago I asked him if they teach this and he said no....so I have.

I'm from VA as well, and don't have a problem following the rule myself. I happen to think it's the Northern transplants that can't drive worth a flip. My sister was down here over the weekend and couldn't believe how agressive folks were driving while she was going to Duke Hospital. I said "Welcome to the RTP!"

I seem to recall them telling us to stay in the left hand lane in the city, so we did not have to slow down for people making right hand turns... or, that could have been my mother.

I'm from NoVA and we fully understand that rule. There are no real lanes there. You just go or else. You'll get a few of those stragglers from the other parts of VA that probably don't understand it. I've also gotten stuck behind my fair share of NC drivers lagging along in the left lane. It could be worse.. they could be a MD or PA driver.

I think you meant you refuse to "move from" the left hand lane..

That's one of the reasons 40 backs up! If more people moved moved over to the left to let people on, it wouldn't slow down as much.

You have to stay in the left hand lane most of the time down here because people almost come to a complete stop (or do!) before making a right hand turn! Hasn't this state heard of turn lanes?

Loki - it sounds like you have some pent up frustration. I'm there!!!!

Should we bring up the people who wait until the last moment to merge when a lane ends, then they put their signal on and stop until someone lets them in?
I have more fun squeezing them out. Maybe they don't notice but it makes me feel better and even powerful to force them to move in behind me.

Don't get me started!!! I do the same thing. Though, I have been guilty of it too. I'll just push my car in and dare you to hit me.

People that ride in the left lane for no apparant reason are just idiots!! Now, put a cell phone in their ear and they are dangerous idiots!! As always, JMHO.

I think different rules apply in town vs on the highway. The left lane in town is not called the "passing lane."

I know KDs. It was kind of a joke post... I guess if I have to explain it, it is not funny.

I remember when I first moved here. OMG! Thought it was Nascar driving. I first ventured out on to Capital Blvd at lunch time the first couple of days here.
Now I drive a like a true race car driver!
When there is an accident or a lane is closed and everyone is stopped, I am not afraid to put the nose of the car in the next lane anymore! I don't understand why people won't let you in. It's not like I am going to slow you down to that 1 mph mark when you are only going 2.
