Good golly tambrap - better put on the brakes.

First - unless you have a non-profit status (legally filed 501(c)(3) ) I don't believe you can run any type of raffle in any of the 50 states and keep your behind out of jail.

Second - There is no such thing as a licensed pet sitter OR a licensed dog trainer. I know, I own a dog obedience training/pet sitting business. These individuals may have a 'privilege license' - which enables them to conduct business in a certain town - but that has nothing to do with animals. They also might have taken classes and attended workshops for various certifications, BUT there is NO license! You are falsely advertising them, and/or they are falsely advertising themselves.

Want to raise money to help needy families get their pets altered? Hold a yard sale - hold several of them. Organize a car wash - not a dog wash -(the legal issues if someone gets bitten are huge - non profits have insurance for events like that) OR - help out a organization that is already up and running with its 501(c)(3) status. Every organization that deals with animals always needs new volunteers with energy and some good ideas to help them continue their mission.

According to the state of North Carolina you do have to be licensed to pet sit
that information can be obtained at the state website www.ncaws.com
It also included dog training. As far as that goes i completetly know the law on that.

Second the raffle people are automaticly entered in when they purchase anything from the yard sale. So that i dont have to be licensed for or anything along those lines.

Never planned on a dog wash! I am aware of legal issues that can arise.
So i have already gone over the legal issues with the state and county i am in an what i am doing is legal.

I have already spoke to the clinic that is going to sell the certificates to be and i already talked to the animal shelter they are aware of this and knows they will be getting all certificates.

p.s the business are sending the checks (money ) they donate straight to the vet clinci they never touch our hands!

Thought id share this with this group , but i guess it wasnt a good idea.
I guess helping a problem is worse then creating the problem.

Honey - show me where it says ANYTHING about a pet sitting or dog training license Pet Shops and boarding facilities and the like have to be licensed - BUT there IS NO LICENSE available for pet sitters or dog trainers - at least not in NC. Only certificates for completing courses - and these are NOT state regulated, nor are they a requirement for setting up ones business.

That "law" in bold print at the bottom of that page is referring to an in-home pet sitting service - meaning the 'pet sitter' taking someone elses pet into their (the pet sitters) home - which thus would make it a boarding facility or a kennel - which MUST be licensed. It is not about going to someone elses home and caring for their pet(s)

My business is an LLC, I follow the law and have, over the years, taken some very pricey courses in dog behavior - none of which are required in any way for me to conduct my business, however, as a professional who has been active in working with dogs for decades, I have taken these courses in order to keep myself safe as well as helping my clients to have the best possible relationship with their canine companions.

Oh and BTW in your original post - you mentioned nothing about the raffle being automatic with any purchase of a yard sale item.

As for the dog wash - you asked for suggestions to raise funds and I figured I'd save people from suggesting it and getting your hopes up - as far as the issues you might come across should you try one and someone be harmed.

go right ahead fire away, get your friends to join you, i really don't care what any one on here thinks, a lot of people on here are really nice and give good advice and they do it in a nice way not all nasty and rudelike. Some of you And you know who you are and so does anyone with half a brain. Have nothing better to do than sit here and put others down pick pick pick at anything you can just to make yourselves feel all powerfull, "oh boy my posts are being read by others I must be great" . "I am so great I know everything" "I am an expert". BLA BLA BLA. Ever heard of being humble? guess that's not in your vocabulary . Enjoy your exciting little lives , your eyes glued to the monitor just waiting for some poor soul to misspell, missquote, or God forbid have a difference of opinion other than yours. Get over yourself. Treat others the way you wish to be treated I say but then again I can see yall truely enjoy these juvinile "my dads better than your dads kinda fights" A lot of people who actually go out into the real world and interact nicely with others find your sort totaly amusing but sad.
Have a fun day hope you find more people to pick on so your life will be complete!
    Love ya!:grouphug: xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Chicklet, I have a very full life, this is just a harmless time waster for me. What I don't appreciate is ANY poster, new or old, who obviously doesn't know their *** from a hole in the ground trying to put their .02 in on subjects they know nothing about. Apparently you haven't been around long enough to realize that very few of us on here agree about everything and do not form cliques to run folks off. How about you practice what you preach about treating others like you'd like to be treated. Kiss it.

You've obviously decided that I have nothing better to do than to pick on people, and that in my posts I was looking for a difference of opinion - in that case, you are so very wrong.

The original poster placed their entry talking about running a fundraiser to help get spay/neuter services available for needy animals - a very kind gesture.

They posted that they had licensed pet sitters and licensed dog trainers who were going to make themselves available for this event as part of the draw to get people to come out ----- I informed them that there is no license - in an effort to educate them so that IF they were to say make posters or fliers, or take money to spend on advertising that maybe they might consider the phrasing, so they (the original poster) wouldn't appear as if they were misleading people. The original poster then basically told me I was full of it and left a link - which they misinterpreted.

The original poster also mentioned that at the fundraiser they wanted to hold a raffle. They did NOT state in their original post that these tickets for the raffle would be an automatic handout to anyone who bought a yard sale item ----- I informed them that raffles, if you are not a non-profit group, are illegal in NC. Forgive me for providing them advice which would keep them out of jail. Shame on them for not being more explicit.

I never corrected the original posters grammar, and it might surprise you to learn that I truly have compassion, so I won't correct yours. All of us are entitled to our fair share of typos.

I suppose it would have been doing the right thing just to let the original poster believe that what they intended (at least how they stated their intentions) was on the up and up when it wasn't.

I don't claim to know it all, every day I learn something new. . .but when it comes to fund raising for animals, I know a heck of a lot more than the original poster.

Oh yeah, and my post average isn't much more than ebabes ;)

Well, Zoo, you were far more diplomatic than I would have been.

I guess from now on, those who know folks are about to make a big mistake should keep our mouths shut and let them wallow in their ignorance.
