Does anyone use it to help them sleep? I'm looking for some feedback from folks who use this, or whose children use it. Thanks.
I use it occasionally. It makes me fall asleep fast and usually stay asleep all night. However, sometimes I feel a little groggy in the morning and/or have a slight headache. But on the nights when I am dying to sleep and just can't it is soooo worth it.
Several of my co-workers use it and love it. They say getting the correct amount is the hardest thing, to avoid the groggy feeling the next day. I know it's natural and non addictive, which is good.
Tried it awhile ago - need to take it approx 20 min before you want to sleep and sometimes I did feel groggy or headachey the next morning. Sometimes it was still hard to get to sleep if I'd had a busy/hectic day or was worrying about something. Went to taking Tylenol pm - then started getting a little worried about that, so now I just take a benedryl each night!
Yeah KB that's true. The dosage on my bottle is 2 dropper-fulls but I only use about 2/3 of 1. Only get groggy if I take too much.
these gals here use the liquid too....I think they get it from GNC, Whole Foods or The Vitamine Shoppe.
Thanks for your input. I'm asking because the pediatrician has suggested I try some for Little Bit, who just doesn't sleep. Has anyone ever given any to a small child?
My doctor told me to try it for my 5yr old and 17mth old. I have yet to try it but my friend using if for her little one and she said it works great. Doctor didn't tell me how much to give them though.
My oldest takes it, he's 8. His teacher suggested it as she uses it for her son and her pediatrician recommended it. I love it!! It has been wonderful, he is the type that just doesn't require a lot of sleep and would lay there awake a very long time. He used to take Benadryl for eczema and allergies and we started using the Melatonin when he didn't need Benadryl any longer. We get it at GNC and he takes 1mg.
wow! That is shocking considering the whole cold med deal. I know it isn't a cold med but why wouldn't your Ped give you a dose chart or dosage by weight. Since they suggested it I would think they would feel some sort of obligation to help ya out there. I would almost buy the stuff and take baby and bottle back to the doc and say okay bucko... how much?
No, no. They told me how much to give her. 1mg. I'm just asking for personal experiences with it. She said it was very safe and natural, but I just wanted to know if other mommies were using it too.
Hell, I prolly need to try the stuff out to get my circadian rhythm back in sync. Ever since I had baby koo I stay up late at nights laying in bed watching TV and then dreading it the next morning. One thing I guess I'm blessed with is 2 kids that have no problem sleeping. What's her schedule like?
Jennifer, it is very safe and I've used it on some of mine. Helped immensely. They were 3 and 4 at the time. But sizes of 18 month olds. Hope that helps. No side effects for mine and discontinued when no longer needed. stephanie--mom to 7
I wish I had known that was an option when DS was a baby! He didn't sleep through the night til he was 2!
She has no schedule. She may or may not take a nap during the day. It makes no difference as to whether she sleeps all night or not. Some nights, she wakes up, and you can lead her right back to bed, and she'll instantly fall back asleep. Other nights, you can lay with her/beside her on the floor in her bed/ in our bed, whatever/whereever for upwards of 2-3 hours before she falls asleep again. She's not trying to play, or engage us in converstation. She just lies there and plays with her hair, rubs her blanket, tosses and turns, etc. She just can't sleep. She doesn't get caffiene or excessive sugar. She's not going to bed too early. Benadryl didn't work. It made her fall asleep, but not stay asleep. This is why the doc has suggested the melatonin.
From what we were told, some brains just dont produce enough and it is needed for sleep. My foster baby used it starting at about 3. I think it really helped. As he got older they kept upping it and it comes in 3mg and 1mg's so you can make the number needed. We would give it to him about an hour before bedtime.
