Unless you tell me otherwise, this is how I assume life works. In light of recent financial turmoil and today unveil of the $75 billion foreclosure-prevention program, I've come to realize that you don't need to work very hard, be as irresponsible as possible with your finance, make 30k a year and bought a 500k house, spend and consume beyond your means, your American dream will come true because Uncle Sam is on your side. But if you do the opposite by working hard, pay your tax, your bills, be responsible financially....you're screwed. I'm serious. The government today is making me feel like it is my responsibility to help my neighbors with thier mortgage otherwise they will drag me down as well...so I have no choice.
No that's not how life works, it's how life can get turned upside down in the United States when you give Coporate America the keys to the car and the tow truck driver gives you the keys back.
Trying to fix many years of protecting the rich, supplementing the poor, and screwing the middle class as Bush did, will take a different approach. And, with the former president's inability to string together two coherent thoughts in 30 seconds, Mr. Obama's articulation is a welcomed ability to communicate. The right/conservatives puzzle me. Where was their financial concern over deficit spending, national debt, and the economic bubble rupture from 2000 to 2008? Even with the change in majority, the Republicans still block change. I foresee an even larger reduction of Republicans elected to Congress in 2010. And, if the current policy and attitude continues, it'll be a cakewalk. It seems that the Republicans in Congress have adopted a "Do Nothing" policy. Except that many Republican governors are supportive of the stimulus. Yet, MSM reports that many of those who voted against the package have remarked that they have something in that package to benefit their Congressional districts? Isn't this one of those having one's cake and eating it too kind of moments? Shining example of sheer hypocrisy. WASHINGTON – South Carolina's Republican governor says his state will accept money from President Barack Obama's stimulus plan even though he is ideologically opposed to it. Gov. Mark Sanford says being against the plan "doesn't preclude taking the money." Sanford said Thursday on CBS' "The Early Show" that he took a stand against the president's economic plan because it's "a bad idea." But he says ultimately he represents the interests of the almost 5 million people of his state, and he will look over the plan and decide which parts would help South Carolina. So he hates how he's getting the money, but he's going to hold his nose against the stench and take the money to spend.
100% agree here. We were extremely hard, pay for ALL my kids' medical needs ourselves, buy nothing new unless it's like 90% off(LOL), spend nothing on credit cards, bought a home w/in our means, etc. We did everything right. However, it's all seems for nothing now in the upcoming months of what to come. We literally would be better off if my husband quit his job and took a drastic pay cut. Seriously. All my kids' medical expenses would be paid for by the government, our food would be supplemented, we'd received SSI for each of the kids most likely in the amount total for all of $4900, etc. Instead, I'm cutting coupons, yardsaling, going to the Goodwill, etc. It's truly sad that we can work so hard to do this ourselves and get screwed but those who choose not to work(NOT talking about laid off workers here by anymeans. --that is NOT a choice) are doing so much better than I am! I just don't understand the whole thing. The gravity of this situation Obama is putting us in is beyond anyone's comprehension I feel. Sorry for the sidetrack. But after my kids begging me yesterday for afternoon snacks that is no longer a "luxury" here, I can't take all this crap that is being laid down before this country. Those who are working hard should not have to support those who are NOT!!!! Just my two cents. stephanie--mom to 7
It gets worse..... BATON ROUGE, La. – A handful of Republican governors are considering turning down some money from the federal stimulus package, a move opponents say puts conservative ideology ahead of the needs of constituents struggling with record foreclosures and soaring unemployment. Though none has outright rejected the money available for education, health care and infrastructure, the governors of Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alaska, South Carolina and Idaho have all questioned whether the $787 billion bill signed into law this week will even help the economy. "My concern is there's going to be commitments attached to it that are a mile long," said Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who considered rejecting some of the money but decided Wednesday to accept it. "We need the freedom to pick and choose. And we need the freedom to say 'No thanks.'" Source...yahoo news..... "...considering turning down some money.." The analogy I have in mind is from the Don Henley hit, "If Dirt Were Dollars": Lookin' like a beauty queen Loyal as a wife She raised her little voice and testified, "I am a good girl I've been one all my life" But her virtue was as swollen as her pride She should've had the Oscar She must have been miscast Her fifteen minutes went by so fast I said, "Now, baby, have you got no shame?" She just looked at me, uncomprehendingly Like cows at a passing train Or more like a hooker or a gigolo professing to be a virgin, many times over. If I were in charge, I'd tell them it is an all or nothing choice. And if you choose nothing, your portion will be divided up for those states who do choose to accept it. Legislation was included into the law that permits state legislatures to override a governor's decision to reject the funds, so in cases like Bobby Jindal's national political aspirations, he can always claim that he was against it, and allow the legislature to over ride his crocodile tears of protest and make the state accept the "evil tainted" (Italics mine) money
If a democratic government hadn't pushed so hard many years ago to give mortgage companies the ability/bonuses to finance someone above their means then the housing crisis that we are facing now would never have happened. The same goes for the stock market to an extent with the speclative futures trading and what people "think" will happen. Craig
Why is it the president's(/presidents') fault when the american PEOPLE are the ones buying houses and such that are way bigger than their wallets? Now that's where the problem really started. and the people who let them get away with it.
I was a huge fan of his and always will be but if my memory serves me right Reagan was the one that started making the snowball to home ownership... now it took a long time to create a avalance out of that snowball, and it wasn't what Reagan envisioned I'm sure, so I will blame Clinton...:jester::jester:
lol  i also blame the media for this. they claim they're doing such a great job covering the economic crisis, but if they just kept their dern mouths shut and didnt say "OMG the stock market is PLUMMETING!!" maybe ppl wouldnt have freaked out and horded their money.
Republican governors may refuse stimulus money or at least some of it.... Which sounds like someone deluding themselves into thinking they've preserved virginity by allowing just a slight introduction to the object at hand, as opposed to taking it all in. News Flash, Gov Perry and others...you can't be a semi-virgin. Source..msnbc and others... "My concern is there's going to be commitments attached to it that are a mile long," said Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who considered rejecting some of the money but decided Wednesday to accept it. "We need the freedom to pick and choose. And we need the freedom to say 'No thanks.'" You have the freedom to say "No Thanks", Rick. Just send the entire amount to us in NC. Ricky, Ricky, Ricky....you're a politician. We know what you are. We're just negotiating price at this point.
Does the daily movement of the Dow really affect you? What they don;t report is that for every share sold, it was purchased by someone. Someone lost money, somebody gained. Someone gained, someone lost. Same as interest rates. We all want the lowest rates when we borrow it, but expect high rates when we invest? Can't have it both ways.
Are you serious with this 3rd grade drivel? Governors are looking out for their states....if someone is going to waive money around, what Governor is going to look at his/her citizens and say they didn't want to take "free money?" No way in hades that person would get re-elected. Still doesn't make it right but Governors are responsible for their states.
Nobody defends crooks but that doesn't mean we do away with the free market. ...... just like you don't abolish laws the first time a crooked police officer breaks the law.
Welcome to socialism! The middle class will continue to get screwed while the poor get hand outs. Sounds like a great system to me, when you call the banks about the morgage info. & they say to stop paying your morgage for a few months, then they can help out! That's real responsible!
yeah but Wulf a little hard to buy houses with the mile high interest rates, Reagan brought those down and got it rolling.. Carter su cked by the way..
True...I thought you meant that commie legislation to make the banks loan enough money to people with poor credit.
