Thank you Sherry, i know if I was in his situation, i would want someone to help me out as well, he is a really nice guy overall, and i would hate to see someone have to move where they have been their whole life because of this tragic event, i am just hoping he is taking a small break, getting some sleep which he really needed, I like him as a neighbor, he would tell me about what all of this land, now developed used to be, i like to listen to people, especially ones that like to talk or would love a little attention. : ) I will let you know if I see him tomorrow, I have to work till 3, but my husband and my other neighbor are looking out for him as well, we all keep driving past, on Wed, i am home all day, so i will go look for him, take his dogs some food, and feed the rooster, not sure what they eat though.lol

In responce to the rooster and what to feed him. I am going to give a co-work some food for him tommorrow and she can drop it off to you. I am unable to get there and will be out of town this whole weekend. Do make sure he has some water as well and it is not frozen. You can also give him some greens like lettuce or if you have frozen veggies like corn or peas you can nuk some and I am sure he will like it. Mine do. What kind of coop is he in? some are made with wheels called tractor coops and you can lift and move them. I read eariler that you wanted to move him closer to your line. If you need to get in the coop he most likely will not bother you even if they peck you they won't hurt. I have one that does not like me taking her egg and pecks me now and again. He probably will move away from you. We will need to get your address or a place to drop the food off.

I noticed that Michelle said that she has a TV for him, if it is 32" or smaller I have an entertainment center that he can have. I also have an extra vacuum. The entertainment center is VERY heavy and takes about 4 adult men to move it.

I talked to him yesterday after work, we stood there for an hour and a half, you can tell he enjoyed the company, he could not believe how many people have stopped to talk to him, he even said he didnt think alot of people appreciated him here, he was here way before most of this stuff was built around me. He is still leafing through stuff, he was hoping to find some of his old pictures of him and his family, was telling me how his brothers died, didnt know they did on that lot, plus mom died there, dad died when he was 8, he just needed to vent some, i asked him if he needed anything, clothing, help moving stuff, that there are alot of us concerned about him, he said he wanted to get power back onto his lot, so he is trying to find someone to run power to this pole he has there, if he gets power, then he can get his water running, he is on well water, not sure what all he needs to get that going, then the red cross said something about a temp house trailer, but he said he was not sure about how much red tape might be involved, he we to see about a trailer, so thats where that is, he does want to come back, the rooster is in a metal looking crate, it really needs a bigger place to run, its about the size of a microwave, he has been given bread the past few days, but again, i do not know much about roosters, lol. it is really cute, i told him if he was going to be gone for a while to move it closer to my lot and i could keep an eye on it for him, he did say that he would like some fresh water, like a gallon of water for him to drink clearing his lot some and to give to the rooster and his dogs, i am going to drop one or two off tomorrow, i told him he didnt need to be there today, its raining and cold, and he has a cough he said since he had the fire, so i am not sure if he inhaled alot of smoke,.. But he did again tell me that the fire started outside, he said something woke him up and he heard like a pop, crackle, so he went outside, and he said it was on fire out there, he didnt know if the pop crackle was the power line that came down that hung over his place or if somehow it started under his workshop, but he is really talking about, i wish i would have grabbed my pictures, i wish i would have grabbed this and that, i told him, i have a feeling alot of people that go through what he did, say the same thing when it happens to them, he said he couldnt believe how fast it spread. His address is i think 1500 josephine road, in garner, you will see it, hard to miss it, josephine is about a mile or two long, thats it. if you wanted to drop something off at his place, if a white truck is there, he is there, if its not , then hes not, if you didnt want to , because of the dogs, you can drop it off at my place, 139 topsail island drive, just let me know when or if its something small, just put it on my porch if you want, i am going to go over every other day to check on him, someone needs to go there that knows about scrap metal and junk cars and let him know what he might get for them, he keeps saying about getting rid of some of it, but says he doesnt think he will get anything for it.

I feel so sorry for this guy. Not real sure what to do at this time other than stopping by to see him. I think that dropping items off might get in the way of an effort to clean up the lot. Of course, that is just my opinion at the moment.

Does he need someone to help him go through items on the lot, find pictures and items and box them up for him?

Cannot remember where he is sleeping/staying. Does he have a place?

Does he want people to help cleanup and remove items from his lot and when do you think he will be ready for that?

Loads of other questions but I guess the ones above are the most important to his situation, in my mind, at the moment.

    Thanks,
    Sherry

We will drop the Rooster food off at your house later today. I may try and get over and see the Rooster Sunday after I get back in town and see if I maybe able to make shift a larger run area for him. I have chicken wire and stakes and it would not be all that hard. If you have a small bowl you can fill it with the food and put it in his cage. He may even have a feeder in his cage.

Other than water, please let us know specifically what he needs. We have family in Island Creek and we're just down the road in Hunters Mill, and we would all like to help. Clothing and shoe sizes would also be really helpful if you can get them.

So I am loading up my chicken fence and stakes and other chicken supplies and will be out their Saturday morning to make shift a chicken run and house. Brown eye girl, If you are around and can show me where your property line is we can put it there. I will bring a feeder and auto water to make it easier and better for all. Chicken care lessions included. I will be out there around 9 if anything changes I will post it.

I have not talked to Mr. West in two days, since then he has put up a wire fence, not sure if that is to keep people off of his lot, I was going to go over today, but I did not see him when i drove past, he thanked me the other day for wanting to help, but didnt go further than that, so i am not sure what he wants to do , or for everyone to leave him alone, he does have my number and he knows where i live at, so I guess its a waiting game now. : ) Terri

What about an update on the cleanup? Just say the word, have his approval and need to know areas he wants to keep and areas that need to be removed.

    Thanks,
    Sherry

I have not seen him around, i seen him two days ago, and by the time i got over there, he was gone, his dogs are at his lot, but i havent seen him, I am not sure about the "junk Cars" I think someone needs to go and ask him how much he might want for them, he has a tooooonnnnn of them, believe me, he has 4 acres, and they are scattered everywhere on his lot, i dont think he thinks he can get much for any of the cars or scrap metal, but maybe if someone could talk to him or put something in his mailbox, just letting him know the going rate or something, i thought he would have been there today since its sunny, but i havent seen him yet, is the rooster still there or gone? if he is not going to be there , then yes i could get the rooster moved closer to my lot to keep an eye on it

I don't live near his place but maybe someone could put a letter in his mailbox about the cars and ask if it would be okay if someone were to call about the value of those items and if he could be available soon to meet about it. I wonder if that place on 70 named LKQ or LQK that has all the broken down cars and is open 7 days a week might send someone over to give a quote on how much they would buy them for, excluding pickup. I'd be glad to call them but still need approval from the owner and a day and time he could meet on his property.

    Microwave

I have an old microwave oven that Mr. West could have. Also, my husband and I can help with cleaning the lot if someone is organizing that. Other than that, maybe we can get him furniture from the Goodwill in Clayton or wherever.
