I'm certainly not a repairman - but have you heard the compressor come off/on? If not - could be that and they are expensive! If you have heard it - then it could be the lines are frozen or something like that. What brand is it? I have a GE side-by-side and we had that problem and it was something to do with the lines - but they had to replace a computer module, a fan and something else.......but we have the extended warranty on it - I am SO glad we kept that! :)

There was someone on here recently that had fridge probs - do a search and you'll prob find other helpful hints as well.

mine did this last year. My problem was that I keep it very very cold. And the water that drained was stuck because of a clog in the line, then it froze and kept the cold air from the freezer from getting into the fridge because the ice was all frozen up in there...ok, that was an awful explanation of what went down with my fridge, but I meant well :)

Check your coil/s (thing that looks like a radiator) for dust and debris. If they are stopped up a quick cleaning will work wonders for the temp!!

You may have a bad compressor or a bad control board, thermostat, evaporator coil, It could be a number of things. Try to first clean the coils by vaccuming or blowing the dust out of them with compressed air. See if that improves the cooling. You didnt state if it's just the freezer or both the freezer and fresh food compartments that are not cooling properly. I cannot tell you what may be wrong with it without looking at it. Amana is manafactured by Maytag so being 6 yrs old you could invest the $ into repairing it or if it will cost you too much look into another refridgerator. Stay clear of General Electric. Whirlpool is my choice of appliances.

Sorry just read through the whole thread and it sems like the whole unit is not cooling. This could be several problems but sounds like a bad compressor or loss of refrigerant. Expensive fix either way. I cannot touch the refrigerant, I do not have a Ref license, but you could call Andy's appliance Service. Look up their # in the Raleigh Yellow Pages.

If it is just the fresh food and not the freezer, If you know someone who can store your food/freezer items you may want to try to shut down the unit for 24 to 48 hrs and re power it up after that time may be a frozen line blocking the cooling to the fresh food compartment. If you keep the freezer set to a very cold level this could likely be the cause.

I was the one with the freezer problems a few weeks ago. We called Chuck at Chuck's Refrigeration and he tried to help first over the phone, but it turned out to be our circuit board, so he came out and replaced it. I highly recommend him if you need to go that route. 989-6865.

This happened with our fridge, and we discovered that there was what looked like a rug of dog hair clogging up the ventilation (we have several animals) - it was previously mentioned checking the coils and whatnot...ours was at the bottom of the fridge (we have bottom freezer drawer). Sometimes just clearing all that out might be the fix. Or it could be something wrong with your defrost, and making sure your freezer is free of any accumulating ice helps. It could be the timer is not running the cycles properly, or the vents in the freezer are clogged and air is not circulating. Just a few suggestions.
