could not find the what are you reading thread so we have a new one. just started 'the shack'. has anyone read this? my parents have read it and said it is just wonderful!! so far so good....
I got about half-way through it and for me, it got a little too "teachey, preachey" to suit my tastes. I like when I have to figure out the symbolisms, alleghories, rather than have them pointed out to me; "The reason God gave us...., That's why when God...." if you get what I'm saying. It was also a little too "cutsey" for me, having a big black woman for God, for example. I'm sure it has brought a lot of comfort to a lot of folks, and I will force way through it, it may pick up, but this is just my opinion. NOW, for a really good read (and quick, too), with lessons to be learned. pick up Randy Pausch's "The Last Lecture"! Or just watch the live version on the internet. A college professor, dying of pancreatic cancer, delivering his "last lecture" (Only really it's a message for his 2 small children, who won't have him around to grow up with.) Powerful stuff!!!
