DH and I are thinking about going to Vegas for our anniversary this year in October. Just wondering if anyone has been and if so where did you stay? I am just trying to get some info. Wondering what shows to attend and what casinos to visit. We are not trying to spend thousands. I know you can spend as much or as little as you want.

I have always stayed at the MGM Grand and LOVE IT!!! I have seen the Cirque De Sole shows and they are really good too:) We also rented a car ( you can take a bus if you like) and went to Lake Mead one day and then to the dam. But between the gambling and shopping I stayed busy :) LOL

We went for our Honeymoon and stayed at the Westward Ho, but I think it got torn down. But as far as shows and stuff, there is a lot of things there you can see for free. The casinos themselves are neat to walk around in. there is also Madam Trussaus (sp) wax museum, which is really neat. You can actually touch the wax figures and take your picture with them, if Treasure Island still has it, there is a pirate show outside, which is free. At the Bilagio there is the dancing water (I believe that is where it is at) and there is an "erupting" volcano. When we were there, we took in dinner and a magic show at Ceasars Palace. That was fun. We also took the helicopter ride over the strip, although I personally thought it was too much money, but it was cool. But there is a lot to see without spending a lot of money.

We went a few years ago and stayed at the hotel that looks like a castle, can't remember the name. They were the cheapest on the strip at the time, I didn't much care about the hotel at the time, because we were barely there. We visited most of the casinos on the strip, DH won some money at one of them. Woo Hoo. If you have time, I highly recommend going on to the Grand Canyon. Well worth it. We took an all-day bus trip that went there and the dam. It was incredible. We were only there for a long weekend. We visited Ceaser's Palace of course and ate dinner there to celebrate DH's windfall and the Venetian is very cool. Don't waste your money on the Gondola ride. Bilagio was fantastic! Didn't have time to catch any shows, maybe next time!

Excalibur is the hotel...I have stayed there too. We also have stayed at the Belagio.

It's worth going to see the Grand Canyon and going to the Hoover Dam too.

It's a really fun place. You can do as much or as little as you want.

Excalibur! That's it! (not enough coffee today) Believe it or not, they had the best buffet! We didn't find that out til the last day, LOL.

We also trekked to the old part of Vegas one night to see the light show and the older casinos like the Golden Nugget. That was an experience, LOL. I had the most horrible roller coaster ride of my life on New York, New York. I imagine everyone on the strip heard me screaming myself hoarse. I was furious at DH for guilting me into going. I've never ridden another one. There was another couple with us and they wouldn't ride it either. I'm still mad!

Excalibur as well. Enjoyed it a great deal. Plus it has a walkway that connects to the Luxor and Mandalay Bay. I think it was underground if i remember.

Mandalay Bay is where DH won a good chunk on a progressive quarter slot machine 5 minutes after we walked in. He put the money in his pocket and we walked right back out again, LOL.
