LOL first time I was in Vegas we stayed at the Westward Ho also. That place was the most horrible place on the strip!

My favorite place (ton of pics) is the Bellagio!!!!!

    Don't forget your walking shoes!

We stayed at New York New York for our honeymoon back in 2000. It was very nice, but our room was up very high and on the same side as the roller coaster.
If I had to choose, it would be Mandalay Bay or the Monte Carlo.
We are going back next February for our 10 year anniv.

If you are gambling, the drinks are free except for tips...................I really don't remember the food being too terribly high though. Fast food places are available. We usually went cheap for breakfast and lunch and then did someplace "nice" for dinner. Ceasars Palace was one of the most expensive meals I've ever eaten, but was delightful.

Went there for honeymoon also. We stayed at Luxor, the pyramid hotel. It was very nice, especially the elevator ride is very different by riding the sideway due to hotel's structure. We also stayed in Treasure Island and it was nice, too. We typically get cheapest rate by signing up their email advertisement that we get every month. Also, go to Vegas.com and they will tell you where to find your freebies (shrimp cocktails, drink, gambling, souveiors, and more). Google "Las Vegas tourism" and be sure to sign up for free vacation planners in the mail - they'll send you tons of free coupons for free stuff/discount. You don't need to rent a car if you only want to stay in Vegas. They now have monorail that take you some places, mostly on the strip area. If you want to go see Grand Canyon (3 1/2 to 4 hrs drive), yes, you need to rent a car. Google "discount codes" for car rental and type the code in any of car rental's website and get a good discount. Check out travelzoo.com for specials. We love Vegas and plan on coming back again. We went during October - perfect time of the year, not too hot and too cold.

If you don't want to drive to the Grand Canyon, you can take a bus tour, that's what we did. We stayed up all night the previous night and slept part of the way there.

Poor me. . .when I had a "real job" I had to go to Vegas for a whole week every single year. . .:) Then went back for another week of vacation 6 months later each year 8) missed this year

To be really honest - any hotel/casino that isn't in the old section will have some decent rooms and be clean. When I'm in Vegas I sleep for about 4 hours out of every 24 I'm there - I'm in the room for that and to shower and change clothes. . .the rest of the time I'm gambling, sitting at a bar, or at a show - course when I was there for work 6-8 hours a day and usually dinner was taken up by meetings. . .but otherwise. . .

I've stayed at the Luxor (very nice - but be certain to ask for a room fairly close to one of the elevators - that's one BIG pyramid) - the downfall is there isn't much right near it except the airport, Excalibur and Mandalay Bay, so you might spend a bit on cab fare if you go casino hopping regularily. . . Also stayed at the Flamingo a few times before and after the renovation - it was pretty nice too, Ballys, MGM, and the last time at Treasure Island.

For shows - Don't miss Danny Gans https://boxoffice.wynnlasvegas.com
    He is GREAT!

    Lance Burton is good too

Zigfried and Roy were amazing, but sadly their days are over

Howie Mandel when he's in town puts on a great show.

These days you can get great deals - just got offers earlier - one was for the Luxor for 42.00 per night for up to 2 people in the room. Not a bad deal at all. IF you can get a good deal on a flight, don't pay for your hotel room in advance - you can usually get your room comped by the time you check out if you gamble - ditto with meals - if the hotel has decent restaurants, charge the bills to your room and they will likely be free too. Last few trips rooms and meals were free, even had cash waiting for us when we returned - love when that happens.

We went last year.. stayed at the Mandalay Bay! Loved it. You can get some really good deals if you cruize the internet enough. The room we booked was not availalble when we arrived so they upgraded us. GREAT ROOM!!

Bring a good pair of walking shoes, and fair amount of money. You will have a ball.

    Lots to see and do!!!

I came here from Vegas and still have family out there so have gone a lot off and on while the town was growing up. One thing to consider is the ride to the top of the tower at Paris and if you do it at night, you can look down on all the lights on the Strip and also see the lighted water show at Bellagio's. They do the Volcanos erupting at the Mirage, the pirates at Treasure Island, there is a good show in the mall at the Shops at the Forum. As far as hotels, unless you want something really really nice, a room is a room is a room. I have stayed at the MGM, the Hilton, the Sahara, Sam's Town on the Boulder Highway, Golden Nugget downtown. The accomodations were fine in all of them.. You can also find things to do that do not involve gambling and drinking. The trip to the dam is good and you can ride the elevator down to the bottom and tour the inside at no cost. The ride out there is even nice. I always try to envision what it was like to make that trip a long long time ago or what it must have been to build all that out there in the middle of the desert. You can go out to Lake Mead (where the dam is)..it is where Elvis made parts of some movies. Liberace museum, and of course the museums.
Just so much to see and do but research it. Their public transportation is much better now and you can ride a trolley up and down the strip for $1.
Check out the sites for the various hotels to see who is playing as it gets closer to time for your trip. All the hotels are valet parking and it is not like in Raleigh. You only do the tip when they bring your car back and it is mostly just $1-2. It is appropriate to tip people who man slots if you win more than will drop in your tray and of course your cocktail waitress. Sometimes I have just ordered bottled water from them. If you get tired of standing, sit in the Keno lounge and it goes slow (don't lose so much money so quickly) and they will bring you drinks...There is always big Bingo going on somewhere. That was my mom's favorite although I have seen her lose a whole paycheck a time or two plaing slots...
Well if I haven't hit on something just ask...
Hope it is a great trip. When I was younger, I didn't see how anyone would ever want to live anywhere but Vegas!!

We were just there in January, lots of fun! Stayed at the Luxor, good restaurants between the Luxor, Mandolay Bay and Excaliber but not cheap like we thought they may be. Luxor had a good breakfast buffet restaurant, about 20 bucks per person, all you can eat. Same at night- great buffet, but plan to spend about 40 bucks per meal wherever you go (unless you go to a McD's on the strip). Be sure to go to the Sigfried & Roy's Secret Garden at the Mirage. Cool baby tigers, dolphins & other exotic animals. Dont miss the volcano at the Mirage and just go into the Bellagio to see the atmosphere-incredible! The shops there were really expensive, but you get to see a lot of stores and things that you dont see around here in the malls, the window shopping was a blast. Unfortunately Danny Ganz was not appearing when we were there, but he is all they talk about in Vegas-the "must see" show. We also went to the Rainforest Cafe (I think that is in the MGM Grand..)interesting place, kids would love it. Have fun and take your most comfy walking shoes, you will need them!

You asked about shows in Las Vegas. If you go, do not leave without seeing Danny Gans. I believe he is currently at Wynn Las Vegas. You have to purchase tickets in advance or know someone unless things have changed. He is a tremendous talent. Well worth the price.

I've been the last two years. It's not as cheap as you think - or either I don't know where to go for the deals. I remember this past year eating at an ok restaurant my 3 friends and I thought would be cheap. 2 or 3 LIT's later, our bill was over $400. We eat at one place, can't remember the name, it has round, red seats. It's an older place and, from what I understand, the mobsters used to frequent the place back in the day. EXCELLENT steak and atmosphere but be prepared to drop 150+ per person. Last year I stayed at the MGM which was very nice, '07 was the Riviera which was dated and boring. The restaurant there had an excellent, cheap breakfast though. The ham special was about $7 and contained a plate full of eggs and a slice of ham that hung over the edges all the way around the plate. The Hoover tour is definitely worth the trip.
