The reason I prefer the call is that when you rely on the tv or radio, then you have to wait to hear what you're concerned about and the lists are so long, that that can take awhile. And as far as the computer, in my case I'd have to get up (in the cold) wait for my computer to come up etc, in the mean time the dog and cat would get up and I'd have to let them out or feed them etc... So with the phone call, I can answer it from the comfort of my bed and most everyone else in the house stays asleep!

Plus you have all those teen drivers....of which I have one, so I was happy with a delay. Although she had already gotten in the shower when the call came, but when she got out, she dried her hair and got back in bed.

Hat, honestly, do you think school should be canceled every time they predict a few flakes? Weather prediction is not an exact science and I don't have a problem with them waiting until some snow was on the ground before making a decision. I hardly think that is following the "status quo", I think it a little common sense. I don't know a damn thing about Croom, I'm just speaking as a parent. Of course I don't want my child to be in a bus accident, but come on!

I have no problem with the phone call for me, got it this morning and went right back to bed. No big deal.

    (laughin')........

post time - 11:09PM (according to the site)

I love it. I bet you were sitting on pins and needles hoping nothing would be on the 11pm news so you could scurry off to your computer and sit down and type away a 'dig' at Dr. Croom. (laughin') At 11pm last night it had not begun to snow at our home. Yet, you wanting an announcement stating that due to the weather that schools were either delayed or canceled. (laughin')

The forecast was for more than a few flakes. And there was significant accumulation in West Johnston. Granted that everyone may not have the same issues.

The most important thing to me is the safety of my child and that of yours. With the preponderance of forecasting, and the consensus view among all the talking weather heads, the decision should have been made last night.

I'd much rather the delay or cancellation be announced far enough ahead of time such that safety is not a concern. That didn't happen. SO what if the call to delay or cancel is incorrect. I'd still rather that the decision makers err on the side of safety.

Sounds as if some folks are getting wrapped around the idea of a spring break as if they are entitled to it. Some parents on here have said, in effect, that they will take the full break, regardless. What's the real question here? Safety of the children or Spring Break?

Not only do I have a child in the schools, I have a spouse who teaches in them. Their safety and that of the students is more important to me than having to give up a day, especially since the die was cast, and the break was already impacted.

I'm not REMOTELY concerned about the spring break. I have no plans and if school is open, DS is going. What anyone else's plans are isn't my concern.

I guess it just seems to me that getting all bent out of shape at 11:09 last night was just a bit premature. That's my opinion, and apparenty yours is different. I'm not a member of the school system in any capacity other than as a parent. Of course safety is a concern, but I don't see what difference a couple hours made in the decision. The end result is that school WAS delayed and everyone is safe to my knowledge.

    Jump,

I did repost that question to you about being an elected official. So, are you or are you not? I'm unsure as to whether or not you missed it, as I posted it directly under your questions as to whether or not it was directed at you. Or else, you chose not to answer.

In partial response to your implication, you should probably check out the entire times that I am on this computer. Many nights until 1 am, sometimes as early as 4 am, and throughout the day.

My question is why do we need the phone call? Why can't people look online, on the tv, listen to the radio, call their neighbors, etc. like they have for the past xxx years? Last month is the first time I've ever gotten a phone call regarding this, and I've gotten by just fine. It's more annoying than a convenience. I don't think they should have made the call last night, because like someone stated, they were saying Joco might only get a trace, so it would have been unnecessary. As it is, I may not send my kids to school because my road and driveway is becoming an icy mess...and I'm from NY saying this!!

So, you'd rather your neighbor call you at 6am to inquire....lol, not me! As its been stated, there is NO WAY to please everybody! So I guess we just have to deal with it. 8)

(laughin').....I checked the time of the post in question. It is of no concern to me what times of the day you or others spend on this site. So to go out of your way to be sarcastisic in nature in your statement above was uncalled for towards me. Of course, I understand the need some individuals possess to appear overtly sarcastic and almost mean in nature. It's fine. Truely, I honest.

Now, let's deal with this need you have to know more about me. I did respond to you over in the Neighborhood. However, it seems that your desire to know more about me is great enough that you have diverted the topic of this thread over to your needs.

Ok, so let's help you out here.

I could answer yes and be called a liar. I could answer no and be called a liar.

Let's attempt to clarify what you don't seem to be able to do all on your own.

If you are attempting to ask me if I am an elected official, which is specifically what you wrote, then yes I am.

If you are attempting to ask me if I am an elected government official, then no I am not.

Sorry to whizz on your cornflakes, dear. You presumed that I was interested in you. I wasn't, nor am I beyond trying to establish some frame of reference so I could discern your POV. That's something I learned from my military mentors. Not General Powell, but from other senior officers. I found out all I need from two PMs about ya. Have a good life. I'm done with ya. Say Hello to MaryJo, Stinger, and Wulfie. You're part of their club now.

    CB,

Sometimes harsh measures are required. And, life is too short for me to waste time. Yes, they are all part of my ignoble club. They've generated far much more bovine excretia than a D7 could move. I guess the common reference would be that they come across as blivets to me, referring to the bag, not the illusion.

I enjoy a spirited, even passionate exchange of ideas. Nanny, nany, boo,boo just doesn't meet that requirement. And, those in the know, and whose voice I trust filled me in with the salient details I needed.

Just for today....fishing in DG seems to be a nice place to escape from this Wx. If it weren't for the forever flight to get there...
