My sister and I have a silver ball that we've been exchanging for at least a decade. It's about the size of a Christmas ball, but has a bunch of decorative cutouts, and is hinged to open. So our gifts can't exceed the size of the ball, and we just keep exchanging it back and forth for all occassions with a little gift inside. Sometimes we get silly about it (like an I heart NYC thong) or sentimental. It's a lot of fun, we don't have to wrap anything, and it is usually pretty frugal.

I think its great, and what may have started as frugal became a great tradition between them and something for generations to come to see and pass down.
