How to get rid of Ants?

You thought I meant fire ants, but I've got those figured out. Now we've got these tiny little red ants, the size of sugar ants. I've been finding them on my kitchen floor, usually just one or two here and there. I stepped up the cleaning schedule so that the floors get mopped every night now. Last night dh spilled a little bit of juice on the floor and by the time I got home it was swarmed with the little buggers. It doesn't make sense as everything in the pantry is sealed in Tupperware and the floors and countertops are kept really clean.

What do I do? I'm not sure if this is where they're coming from, but when I went after them last night they ran into the crack between the kitchen tile and the hardwood in the family room (I have a call in to the builder to seal the crack ASAP).

Should I call an exterminator? We have a crawl space...should I have that treated? Is there a non-harsh chemical approach (I only use non-toxic cleaning supplies and don't like to have chemicals around, although I have conceded on the granuals needed to get rid of the fire ant mounds outside and will make an exception inside if I have to).

    Thanks!!

Pest control services do make them go away and die.

I know you will think this is weird but I swear it works:

Put baby powder around the base of the floor but spray the ants that are already seen. I swear they will not cross the baby powder line. Never hurts to try.

I've always used medicated powders for ants. Just put it down where you think they are coming in and they won't cross it.

You can seal the crack yourself by using a can of Great Stuff Insulation. It will fill the holes and harden up so the ants cannot get through.

Make a mixer of Nutra-Sweet & Apple Juice(just enough so it melts) & put it on a plate where they can get @ it. They eat it , then take it back to the nest & die.

Nutra-Sweet was originally made for to be a pesticide. That is why I don't use or eat anything that has it in it.

if you use natural cleaners you can spray live ants with simple green to kill them. Its ok if its mixed with water a strong mix works best. I have a 5 year old so I never liked using chemicals either. our old house was built on a slab and everytime it rained the ants found their way in. I saw some while cleaning one day and sprayed them just to slow them down and they died instead

We get those and we've found Ortho Max Attract ant traps work pretty good.

We use to have a trail of them every spring. For two or three years we put out the ant traps and haven't had a problem for the last several years.
