DD #1 got contacts a year ago. She was very irresponsible and did not change them out like she should have, so she got a very nasty ulcer on her eye that took months to clear up. She has a permenant scar on her eye now because of it. The only reason her doctor put her back in contacts was because she made her swear that she would never ever sleep in her contacts again. She has two week wear contacts that she takes out every night, and trust me when I say that her little experience will make sure she is not so careless with them again. She plays ball and the contacts are almost a must. We also keep a pair of back up glasses, but her eyes change every 6 months as well. I only order a box of contacts at a time, and it runs me about $45-$55. There are 6 pair in a box, and because she doesn't sleep in them, she can stretch her 2 week wears to 3-4 week wear. So box will last us most times 4-6 months.
i worry about this happening b/c i know he wont do as he should! i feel they are a must as well b/c of the football helmet. where do you get your dd's contacts? you always find such great deals on all things!
I order from www.contactlensking.com they are cheaper than buying from the offices. You can also get good deals at places like BJ's if you have a membership - but for the kind my son needed, online site was cheaper.

We actually use Clear Care, the kind that bubbles up. We both tried the regular solution and had issues with it.
I hesitate to post this - cause I don't want to scare you to death, but I also feel I need to make people aware of this type of thing, as this did happen to my daughter 2 yrs ago and we're still dealing with it. I think I'd seriously try to stick with some sort of glasses that will work with a helmet. I'm sure the eye dr or maybe even the coach could help you with that? How old is DS?
PRM-You hush your mouth! Didn't your mama raise you better? CF- DD was 12. Honestly, with sports, I think contacts are the way to go, but you've got to somehow make him understand how crucial it is for him to take care of them properly.
the same way i make him understand that he does not know everything and will listen to the queen? :mrgreen: i just cant see glasses working with football!
