Anyone else following this sad story? They are saying she is brain dead from what looked like a minor fall skiing. What a shame, she's only 45 years old.

(Anyone who has a snide comment about how we shouldn't care since she's a celebrity and we don't know her personally can start another thread I won't be reading 8))

It is sad. I heard about it yesterday. Family members are coming in to say their good byes before they disconnect life support. Sad in deed.

very sad indeed! hard to understand b/c it was a 'minor' fall and she got right up and was joking about falling. then a few hours later she was in the hospital in critical condition. life is short.....enjoy every moment!

this is sad - even my doctor said it was a rare chance but stuff like this happens. People die every day from "stupid" stuff. How many of us would have blown of a head bump on the bunny slope?
    i would have.
and most of you reading would have..
and if you were concerned ...some folks on here would have made fun of you for being a cry baby.
So you would have shut up.
    hmmmm.....
Plain and simple. We know not the hour of our death.
So let's enjoy here, while we are here, because there is no here, there...

I wonder if there wasn't something else going on that she didn't know about and maybe the fall triggered it? It just seems so crazy that a little fall would cause her to now be brain dead. Could it have been an anurism (sp)?

Either way, it is very sad.

Probably a "one in a million shot". She fell on snow.

To me, it emphasizes the possible need to be seen at the ER for any type of head injury. You just never know and an early CT scan probably could have made the difference in life or death. Same thing happened a few years ago at a hockey game. A young girl was hit by a puck that went over the glass. She seemed okay, but died a couple of days later. My son had a pretty bad spill several months ago, hitting his head. We didn't hesitate. We carried him to the ER and they did a CT scan. Thankfully, he just had a mild concussion and a small laceration.

I think any significant blow to the head needs medical evaluation. Afterall, your brain is up there in a relatively tight space and only suspended by fluid and supported by the brain stem and spinal column. Any collision your head suffers equates to abnormal movement of the brain.

This is very sad!! She was a great actress! My grandfather passed away about 2 yrs ago from a minor fall. He was fine when we got there and his wife said that she didnt even think he had hit his head, so he went on to the hospital ( bc of age) they did a CT and it showed nothing and later that night he became very ill ( vomiting and headaches) they did another CT and he had bleeding on the brain, just like her and eventually was put on life support and was ruled brain dead. And this happens to be National Brain Injury Awareness Month :(
