Yeah, my 5 yo is coughing now too. We've all had a little bit of a cough for a couple weeks now, got that after the stomach bug we had. And I'm trying to get over my cough that I had since November, supposed to go back 4/7. Now I don't know if my cough now is still that, or what the kids gave me...ugh!

I know you have been sick for so long, I hope you too feel better soon.
I'm just glad we didn't have the stomach bug. That is what I thought she was getting when it started. Thank god for that. We have been lucky for 3 years with out catching a stomach virus.

Hope everyone's kids get better soon. I'm a little ticked because I called the dr this morning for DD1 and they couldn't see her today so as soon as she gets out of class we're going to the ER. Yes she's stubborn and thought she must go to class today.

You'll prob have to wait FOREVER in the ER. The CVS minute clinic has been a good alternative for us when the dr's office was full.

Be careful with the minute clinic. I'll go there if I know what's wrong with me or my kid, but not if it's something I think is serious, or I'm unsure about. Also, if there's a medicine you know will or will not work well for your child (or you) let them know that too. They seem to have certain meds that are "unknown" that they like to prescribe, and don't seem to work well for us in this house. There have been a couple times we ended up having to go to our regular dr after going through a round of meds from CVS because they weren't strong enough.

On the other hand, I went there once when I knew my son had strep (other son had just had it, same symptoms) so I just needed meds, and told her what ones worked for him, and that was fine. Another time my son had a very high temp, was feeling very sick and I was going out of town the next day. She couldn't find anything wrong though, and she was nice enough not to charge me since there was nothing she could do. There's also never been a wait while I was there, which is nice.

Mine still has a small temp and a small cough. If she still has a temp I am taking her back to the DR tomorrow, hopefully they will have more advice than "give her tylenol".

    ER

Went to the ER Thursday night and it was over a seven hour wait unless you were in the process of death. It was like a war zone. Packed and people fighting with the staff because of the tremendous wait. Folks were getting double and tripled cycled through triage to have vitals checked and double-checked because no one was being seen. It was scary.

Have you tried Motrin? I don't even buy tylenol for my little ones anymore, it doesn't do anything. I do motrin, and I swear, it's the best stuff on the market! About 1/2 hour after he'd take it he'd start telling me he'd feel better, and then about 5 hours later he'd say he needed more medicine, it was like clockwork. His first dose of medicine was Saturday morning at 7:30, and his last dose was Sunday morning about 8:00. By 10:00 Sunday morning he was outside riding his bike with his brothers! He'd get tired out a little bit, but he never has the energy they have anyway, he's always been the "odd man out"!

I hope your little one gets better soon!

I think you guys jinxed our family. The teen was home most of the day with a high fever and bad cough. She finished her life guard training yesterday and the teacher thought she was sick at the time but my teen wanted to make sure she completed the whole course. As the parent, I made the decision to let her go because I know how badly she wanted to complete her task. The teacher did send her home early and she passed with flying colors while making sure not to get too close to the other students. Last night I gave her NyQuil but she was still up and down. I've had the same thing since last Thursday, dang it.

The teen had to go into school for fourth block (Pre-Calculus) to make sure she had the notes to study for a big ole' test coming up. She did go around to all her teachers to let them know that she would not be at school tomorrow and needed to pick up needed items. They looked at her and immediately understood as did the teacher who is giving the test tomorrow. Kudos to the high school teachers.

My teen told me that a bunch of kids were out today, some went into school although they were sick to do the same thing she did and others told her that they had been to the emergency room due to this stupid virus.

rushlow.....did you give this to us virtually? Just kidding.

Last time I took her temperature, which was about 30 minutes ago, the reading was 102.5 degrees. Gave her some Motrin and hope it works. Called a couple of nurses and doctors we know and they stated that their was no need to take her to the doctor because it can be handled at home and that I have been doing the right things. Hope it works.

Sure don't want my mother getting this virus as I am unsure she can handle this with everything else.

    Dang it,
    Sherry

My daughter doesn't have a virus that is why i didn't take her to the minute clinic. i knew she would need more than that. finally got to see the doc but now she has to go to the OB/GYN Wednesday for an ultrasound. She has cramps and soreness in the lower left side of her stomach.

Update, I took my DD back to the DR today and it is Type A flu..she still has a fever and just started having a runny nose and cough today. We are 5 days in and they say it should be about finished but there is no treatment for kids under 7 with this type.

I hope all you guys feel better, unfortunately, my poor DD is still in quarentine.

So sorry to hear this. Both the teen and I are better today. Motrin and fluids really pulled us through. I slept on the couch last night so my head would be elevated and do think that helped.

You might want to try that with kiddo. Seems to me that it lasts around 4 or 5 days.

    For everyone:

The teen came home from school yesterday and stated that the boy who rides with her every morning was diagnosed with strep and mono. The same boy had lifeguard training for the last two weekends, which means he was in an enclosed space with others.

Just wanted to let everyone know......just in case.

Well, everyone is (knock on wood) healthy in my home right now. However...pulled the first tick yesterday off my son in a not-so-nice spot. Coincidentally, at the same time I noticed that, I noticed he had a rash that covered his whole upper half of his body. Don't think these are related, as I"ve heard you don't get symptoms of anything from a tick for about 10 days, but just thought it was odd. I'm assuming it was an allergic reaction to something, not sure what. He's not sick though, and wasn't itching.
