OK, here's a very serious topic for us to discuss today: Do you keep your parmesan cheese in the pantry or fridge? It does state on the container to refrigerate after opening, but I have never in my life done this. I always put it back in the pantry, I don't like it cold. Some people who live with me, however, have stated that this is very wrong, and I am putting my family at risk! :chillpill: I say we've gone 12 years doing it this way, and I'm not changing! So I was just wondering what everyone else does? I don't refrigerate my syrup either.
Mine also goes in the fridge, although I try most often to buy the block and not the cheap stuff in the plastic container. I also put ketsup into the refrigerator after opening, but syrup goes back into the pantry. Hmm, I may reconsider the syrup now.
mmmm... If it was unopened real Parmesan cheese I would say pantry. I keep the opened real Parmesan cheese in the fridge because it cost so much. I once had a guest complain that the cheese had gone bad. I said "that's the inspection stamp." If you're eating the Kraft stuff, eating Italian once a week w/ four kids, probably won't hurt to keep it unrefrigerated. Really doesn't matter. Just scrape/pick off the moldy stuff. Syrup doesn't need to go in the fridge. It has such a high sugar content bacteria can't live in it. They will 'asplode.' Parmesan has a low moisture content and high salt content which also makes it keep well.
Same here............I use to put syrup back in the pantry until we had a bad case of sugar ants.......Ewww
Pantry with the cheese Fridge with ketchup and syrup Another bizarre one and you maybe surprised but my mom always put butter in the pantry, I had it that way for 25 years or so...never hurt us. I use that Country Crock stuff and I put it in the fridge.
I've always kept ketchup in the fridge, the other two in the pantry. I don't like putting cold things on hot food, is my reasoning. Our parm cheese probably lasts about 3-4 months in my house, 2/3 of my kids love it, and we eat a lot of pasta/italian food. I've never had it go bad yet! I buy the big container of syrup at BJ's, and that's never gone bad either, not sure if it's supposed to be refrigerated, never looked. But that gets eaten on a daily basis around here, kids eat waffles like there's no tomorrow!
I have something called a "french butter keeper" and its meant for keeping butter at room temp on the counter. If you look at this link, it shows a picture and describes how it works. http://store.leedanielspottery.com/...ode=LDP&Product_Code=FBD&Category_Code=Butter As for the rest, we keep Parm. cheese in the frig after its opened. Syrup on the shelf, and ketchup in the frig too. Here's a wierd one..... What about Soy sauce? I keep my soy sauce on the shelf after its opened, but I refrigerate my Worcestershire Sauce after its been opened. I never really thought about it before, until this thread... they are kind of the same thing.
That's funny! I keep my soy sauce in the fridge and w sauce on the shelf too, not sure why. But I think sometimes the w sauce gets put back in the fridge too.
parm cheese....always refrigerated.... syrup.....pantry ketchup.....in the fridge soy sauce......in the pantry
Everything in the fridge except syrup. Can't think of a single other thing I keep in the pantry besides dry stuff and olive oil.
block cheese I store in the fridge, but when I want to eat it, I let it sit out for a bit to get room temp..... mmmmm..... and hoop cheese must be room temp too.
