My son is 6 and I really need some ideas for summer activities. We have four boys, so we couldn't do something that ran ALL summer, but do any of you have any ideas for mini-camps, etc? He loves wildlife, books, building things, cooking, animals, etc. He is not a great swimmer yet, so I don't think something that centers around a pool would be good. We just moved here about a year ago, so I don't know the area THAT well. I don't even really know where to begin to look. Our deciding factors will ultimately be what is in his best interest, but money certainly plays a part. I think that everyone has felt the tightening of the economy, and we are not any different. Any and all suggestions would be great! Tiff
I don't know about mini camps but I do know the skating rink in Clayton has what they call Adventure Camp. Now it does run all summer long, but you drop the kids off in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. I know they go swimming and do all kinds of things. My niece goes there and she loves it. She is 7 and has been going there for a couple of years now. I do not know what the fees are, but you could call them and see.
I just read in the Garner-Clayton Record (garnerclayton.com) that a local summer camp is looking to fill spaces. They lowered their cost from $125 a week to $75 a week. contact Ron whitman at 779-6679 or ron.whitman@fbcgarner.org.
While this may not be exactly what you are looking for, I am the Cubmaster for Pack 66 and we have activities off and on during the summer. We would be happy to have all of your boys check us out. Karen
Summer Camps http://getoutsideandlearn.com/ Check this website. If your child likes animals, he would probably love this local farm in Holly Springs. They offer many week long camps throughout the summer and it is a great family owned business.
Honey, my ideas are FREE!!!! 1. Go in the backyard and collect *things* (leaves, pinecones, lightning bugs, frogs ...etc) You may have to buy a house for the lightning bugs and frogs Look them up in a book OR at the library to see EXACTLY they are and how they are important to us. 2. Take pictures (learning technology) - e-mail them to grandma? Teaches them how to FOCUS!!! 3. GO PLAY! Run and get some exercise. Do laps around the house - it's a race! Whoever wins, gets ... blah blah blah.. 4. Slip -n -slide - ALWAYS FUN TIMES! You're welcome! HG
Join a local pool. Cheapest thing to do with 4 boys. Turner Farms Neighborhood Pool has openings. We belong to another local pool, and it was THE best investment. My kids and I were there every day!
Check out Camp Invention. http://www.invent.org They hold a week long camp at one of the middle schools (maybe elementary, cant remember) and one at one of the schools in Clayton. Pricey but worth it. Seems like it is for upcoming 1st graders thru middle schoolers. My son went last year and really liked it. db's Wife
