Did it ever occur to you? that.........

.........If you see an animal wandering around that it is NOT your business to chase it down and determine what to do with it? Call animal control or someone qualified to deal with the situation.

My God, has there been a death of common sense in this Country or what?

I hope they catch the person that dumped the animal but I also pray some intelligence into a person that chases down a dog and ends up with $12,000 in bills........that could have EASILY been avoided.

    Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda!

I picked up a dog on Smith Rd a while back (over a year ago), threw it in the car and took it straight to the shelter. The boys (AC) are busy and the *territority* they cover is just insane!

IF I had been @ LF at that time, I would have done the same thing the OP's wife did.

That how it works! I would had rather save a dogs life from some crummy POS owner than worry about me, I got insurance!

    thank you

sorry i was writing in caps but thats was yelling.thank you all for the kind comments as far as the cost and options you can not get the vaccine from another source for less money there is a shortage in the u.s. for these shots and the reason it took so long that night is that the state has to approved the shot the cost was $1490.00 for the emer room and $10868.00f or the shots plus each week for 4 weeks of shots there is $600.00 hospital charge to administer the shots which added $1800.00 to the bill they wont let you take the vaccine to your own doctor to let him do. and thank god we are blessed enough to be able to pay for it and yes i did have to pay for it. and i did today and to the person who wrote it could have been avoided sits on the sidelines thats your choice to the wonderfull other woman and my wife they are hereos they jumped in to without any regard for their safety but for the well being of the dog the real animal was the jerk driving the car.......................

    :iagree: 1000000000000 %

He's a POS that didn't deserve that dog anyway.

It's really too bad the dog got away, he COULD have been rehabilited being with a caring owner that LOVED him as a member of the family.

Maybe the dog was just scared when he/she bit your wife.

I'm sorry you had to go thru this, maybe if you call Obama, he'll help you out with medical bills? <scarsam intended> :boxing:

    Fishy business........

This entire story sounds a bit FISHY......how could someone not see the make and model of a car that throws a dog out? Someone dumps a dog in front of a grocery store with people every where? You mean not one person out of this group could identify car, tag # ......anything? I call BS.

This seems more like someone is fishing for attention and hoping the community will feel sorry for them for chasing a wild dog and getting bit. Sorry, I've seen too many scams around here.

How about some details? Car make, model, tag #, description of persons etc. etc. No one saw anything at 5:00 in the afternoon on a weekday in front of a crowded grocery store. YEH RIGHT!

Pay your $12,000.00 and find another sucker.

I agree, I would have probably jumped in, and have in the past, when I see an injustice and usually deal with the consequences later, if needed.

Just like our hero on the other thread did with the wife beater, possibly with even more dire circumstances if things went wrong.

    Back At You.

    Only regretted jumping in once!

My Step Dad and me went chasing after a guy after a woman jumped out of his car in front of our house. Turned out he was an undercover police officer and she a prostitute!

So sorry that had to happen -Many times there's nothing that can be more dangerous than a frightened dog. I know it's hindsight, but for some of the critter lovers who said they'd have done the same thing - chasing a dog you don't know is never a good idea. That fight or flight instinct kicks in and even the nicest dog can become dangerous. Call them, attempt to lure them, but reaching toward them, while they are still very uneasy with you and their surroundings - it can really get you hurt :(

Like Hught mentioned, there should be pricey fines for dumping animals - some people have no respect for life.

On another note - the cost of the post exposure rabies vaccines the OP mentioned - Who knew? Certainly not me - that's outrageous! And 10K just for the ER? Did I read that correctly? How bad was the bite?

I took a bad (very deep) bite which made massive puncture wounds, but nothing that could be stitched and was treated at Quick Med or Urgent Care - the one on 70 on the same side as the old SPCA - the cost was under 100.00. (the treatment for the bite itself) Still have a scar almost the size of the base of a soda can from it - almost 7 years later.

I lucked out and didn't need to worry about rabies as I'd had the pre-exposure vaccine. Those were something like 300.00 for the series of 3 shots - I didn't have to pay for them myself - they were required - but those antibodies can stay with you for a long time. My last titer test was 2 years ago - (5 years after my vaccination)and still had antibodies present - that was almost two years ago - maybe I'd better see about getting another round

Honestly, the vehicles are much more generic than they used to be, IMO. I used to be able to tell the difference in year model by the location and shape of the lights. Now, is that sedan a Nissan, Toyota, Honda, or what? They all seem to have the same shape, which is fuel efficient, no visible emblems any more, and nothing to distinguish them from the other non-descript brands.

In any case the memories of people in such situations are not reliable even to color, which is why you see people being released from prison because the evidence later refuted the eyewitness testimony upon which they were convicted.

Yet again someone proves why I prefer the company of dogs over people... :?
