Just a bug in the ear of any of you folks that need stuff done around the house. I've got a house that I'm trying to get ready to put on the market, and have had a lot of bad experiences calling people to do work, trying to get quotes, and basically just trying to get someone to show up and actually do the job. With the economy like it is and all the folks that say they need work you would think this wouldn't be a problem.

Anyway, I called Tom (Monaco) to help with a couple of plumbing problems I had, and I'll have to say... punctual, dependable ,knowledgable, on the job and GOT IT DONE!!!

If any of you have things that need doin', problems that need fixin', you really should give Tom a call...Here's a man that knows what he's doing, and OH!!, did I mention????, He won't charge you an arm and a leg. I thought his rates were EXTREMELY reasonable, and any of you that know me know that I'm probably the TIGHTEST MAN IN JOHNSTON COUNTY!!!

I hope this isn't laying it on too thick. but here's a man that been hit with some bad knocks, and if you can use him, you'de be doing him and yourself a huge favor.

KUDOS to MONACO!!!! :hurray::hurray::hurray: (Please remember me when I need you, Tom !)

It's b/c of Kaci's post a few weeks ago I called Tom this week. he's coming to our home starting Friday to do quite a few jobs. We too are getting ready to put our home on the market. My husband has recently had to work very long hours and then some. I try to get little stuff done here and there but hard w/ the 7 running around causing chaos. Knew we needed a handyman to help finish what we could not. I will definitely let everyone know how it goes. I agree w/ previous posters so far. Comes when he says he will, reasonable and very polite daughter to boot! (she helped my daughter on her homework yesterday). I too had the experience of calling people for work and they wouldn't even show up for quotes. Nuts for sure. Again, let you know how it goes but so far no problems. Call Tom. Okay, let him finish my house first--LOL. Seriously though, a great guy.

I do like how we share on here b/c this is the board that helped me find handyman work, a tree company when my tree was about tofall on my house, and many other things. It's nice to see good people right in our own community willing to do good things and others sharing those things.

Are you guys talking about the Member who was recently laid off? We need some work done and I would rather use someone on this Forum anytime.

I really think Monaco should open his own little handyman business. There are enough people on here to keep him busy for quite a while and with word of mouth advertising we sure could help build his business . . . just a thought.

I'll volunteer to help with a logo and marketing.

could be heading in that direction for him if he is staying busy...

Not only laid off, but he and his family lost their home ( and all their possessions) to a fire a little while back. I've got him busy on a couple of other projects today and tomorrow... my fear is that he'll become so popular that he won't have time for me when I call. :)

IF he's not already incorporated, he might want to look into it.

There are taxes to pay on monies earned, just sayin'

:iagree: Especially when it's on a public forum ... you can't exactly hide the fact that your making money. Hope it doesn't lead to tax issues on top of everything else he has going on. :?

Thank You all who have posted referrals for me. It sure is a blessing to know that there are still people in this world who have kind hearts and will offer to help out someone when things look so bleak. I am seriously considering starting my own handyman business but I would need to get a truck and Insurance. I probably will look for one after I get taxes back. (That could take a while though) I and my family are very blessed to have moved here to such a great community where the people actually look out for one another. I still am in kind of dire straits as for my rent and house bills, but as I complete these jobs I am putting away as much as I possibly can to try to meet my obligations. I did open an unemployment claim but I have not seen a penny as of yet. (Could take up to 8 weeks I was told) so we are just scraping by for now. I was offered a job with a plumber last week but I soon found out that it was not worth my while traveling out to Chapel Hill every day for what the starting pay was, it did not make any sense to take that job (it was only part time also)

Monaco, if you become serious about starting your own business and need capital, PM me when you get there. I work for a non-profit economic development organization that provides small business loans in rural counties to folks who can't qualify for bank financing because of credit issues, lack of collateral, etc. I'd be happy to hook you up with a ton of info and let you know what's out there as far as getting a business plan together, entrepreneurial networking, and maybe a small business start-up loan:)

Also, we're just ramping up a federally funded scholarship program for dislocated, i.e. laid off, workers who are looking for help starting their own businesses. Admittance to the program is completely by lottery system with 3 out of 4 applicants being accepted to receive business counseling and guidance amongst other things. You are eligible for this program even if you are collecting unemployment. We have just this week put staffing in place and it should be up and running very soon.

Ok how perfect is that??? :hurray: Maybe something can get rolling. Right now I don't have any plumbing problems, but if he could get rid of ants I'd have him over right now. Ugh.
