How much does it typically cost to board a horse in JoCo? My dream has always been to own a horse. I know affording the horse isn't the expensive part, it is boarding the horse, feeding the horse, medical visits, etc. I'm just trying to get an idea to see if maybe I could afford it now or if I should wait a few more years.

    Thanks!

Outside doing some searching I would think it varies and some may board with some up keep of your horse included. You may find a emtpy pasture somewhere that you may work a deal with farmer or owner on it. Good luck horses do take time and money to own no doubt...

Very good point...I think I will wait a while...especially with the economy going haywire.

A good option for you at this point might be to lease or half-lease a horse. I would check with barns that offer riding instruction to look into that. It gives you many of the benefits of horse ownership without the long-term commitment. It also works out well for the horse if it's not getting enough exercise or if the owner is having trouble financially. Good luck :)

Unlike a BOAT or a Motorcycle ---- A horse must be taken care of DAILY.

Fresh water, Feed, just checking on them, cleaning their hooves, brushing; it goes on and on...

    $$$$$$$$$

My boss had her horses boarded and she said it runs from 150- 250 depending on location and if you want a stall or not. Also depends on if you do the feeding or if they do.
If you do it on your own, you might could find one for less.

She has her own pasture now, but she did have this one place that let her board for free. Her husband cut the grass around the pasture. Might want to see if you can work out some kind of deal like that. Good Luck!
