Not really, as the servers have the legal liability of not continuing to serve anyone who is impaired and would thus be a drunk driver.

I don't like strong perfume. Can we outlaw that as well? How am I supposed to enjoy my meal if "can't get enough of that smelly stuff" is seated at the next table over?

I mean good grief... I don't really like the smell of flatulence so let's outlaw that too in restaurants. If you Fart NO FOOD FOR YOU!

Although I get what you're saying I am a supporter of no smoking in any public places. Having 2 aunts die from smoking related issues and not ever smoking a cigarette I really have an issue with smelling like an ashtray if I want to go bowling, eat out, etc. I really don't want to suck up 2nd hand smoke either.

But I still love ya! LOL

What about the food coloring and additives in the food, can we ban that too. While your at it the sugar would be a good thing to go, just think how calm the kids would be.
Pharmicals are polluting our waters, and pesticides. oh me, oh my.
Please raise my taxes on gasoline, because fast drivers will kill me.
While you are at it please make sure my parents pay dearly, because of those two, I now have life and now I surely will die.

    you people still don't get it......this isn't a smoking issue....it's a governmental empowerment issue.

love ya too:lol: Seriously though i was trying to make the point about control, not whether or not smoking is good or bad - i go to plenty of lunches and dinners for business where smoking is not accepted and i deal - i just worry about the control over private businesses.

I think thats different. A drunk driver can be held accountable for his actions, whether he causes an accident, takes a life, or just gets a DUI. When someone is diagnosed with cancer from second-hand smoke, how do you make anyone accountable for contributing the the death of another individual in that situation?

i know it is different, i was just trying to make the point that if the government can tell private restaurant owners what they can do about a legal substance then that control can eventually extend to anything and everything the government deems necessary.

Well, gee, ya think? Of course things haven't changed, you didn't give the people a choice.

Such as? Are you telling me that, if there was a McDonald's that allowed smoking and a Burger King next door that did not, you'd still prefer to eat at McDonald's?

Predicting that you're going to be a tool, and say you prefer Burger King anyway, reverse it. You know what I mean.

You can't - so how do you make them accountable in preventing cancer? Nobody is forced to eat in these establishments or stand upwind of somebody outside.

I think this is more than a govt issue. It is also a common-sense, consideration, personal accountability issue - and the lack of those things on both smoker's and nonsmoker's parts will make it a govt issue.

Yeah, I don't want the govt telling private business owners what they can and cannot allow in their place of business if the act is legal. It will trickle down to what you as a citizen can and cannot do with your private property. I also think smoking & non-smoking sections are acceptable, and if you are super-sensitive or just super-bitchy... sorry. Ask to be moved to the furthest table from the smoking section or eat someplace else. I don't bring my kids to a bar and expect the patrons there to not speak/act like adults at a bar. It's a bar! I know ahead of time what to expect.

I smoke but rarely if ever do I sit in a smoking section unless it is a bar/grill because a beer goes really well with a smoke! I will even move from the restaurant portion to the bar portion to get my smoke on after eating. That is just me, I am a smoker who does not like second hand smoke! I don't mind the smoking section, it has never bothered me. I don't smoke in my home, I walk away from non-smoking guests and/or their children to smoke. Why can't we all just assume a little personal responsibility so Big Daddy Govt doesn't have to step in and police us?

Clif, another business idea for you (albeit underground). A smokeeasy.

Too late...check out the ordinances for your private property.

Why would it have to be underground? I thought the new law made it permissible to smoke as long as no one under 18 was being served or working at the establishment?

Like what? Having a burn pile more than 50 ft from your dwelling? Common sense.

I say underground, just so he can get a leg up on what's to come. :)
