Yes, I used mine a little bit and the thrill wore off, and it has been sitting in the cabinet for 5 years.
We have one as well, used it for a few weeks when we first got it, was a gift. Now it sits in the cabinet and collects dust. Found it to be more trouble than it worth.
I LOVE mine. I have upgraded twice. We buy meat in larger packs and freeze them, hubby used to hate frozen meat, but he doesn't mind it now, so we have saved a lot of money with it. I have been using one for 5 or so years and leave it ON the counter so I am more likely to use it. We reseal chip bags and all kinds of things with it.
I have one also and I love it. Like LJK, when we buy meat, we break it down and use it to repackage the meat. When I send homemade things to my son, I can make sure they get to him without anything "extra" in it. I may not use it every day, but I still love it.
LOVE OURS!! Got a good one from Cabelas. I use it everytime I come home from the grocery store AND during deer season.
We got one from Cabela's also. It's a heavy monster compared to what I was used to with the smaller ones. But I wore those out too fast ... I chalked it up to "ya get what ya pay for"...depending on how often it's used I suppose. ...Maybe I just had bad luck with the Food Saver brand, I dunno.. but this is what we have now and it's awesome! I used it for buying meat in bulk, hunting season and sometimes left overs from meals. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...70002&parentType=index&indexId=cat570002&rid=
Love it! I buy in bulk to keep cost down! It is a pain BUT a year later, the meat taste as good as the day you bought it!
I like mine. I buy big cuts of meat at Food Town; pork loins, primals. My favorite feature is using the marinating containers. Vacuum marinating is the way to go.
i love mine:hurray::hurray::hurray: use it all the time and it really does keep meat fresher longer and the containers that you can airlock for veggies that come with it are great too.
Food saver or bust (I'd rather bust) I had a food saver about 8 years ago. Bought it from QVC. Looked like such a great idea and I got my beef from a friend/farmer so couldn't wait to try it out. It was slow and didn't create a true vacuum seal. I returned it. How did I freeze my beef? I wrapped it in freezer paper and then put it inside a Ziploc Freezer Bag. I used a straw to "vacuum seal" the bag myself. Just suck out the air, save yourself some money.
I love mine, I just need to use it more often. I bought a cheap Black and Decker one to start with, that was a waste. Found the Food Saver one on sale somewhere, it's worth the extra $$. Don't cheap out.
And that took how long to do? 9 hours? I agree with kdc, don't cheap out. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...h/search-box.jsp.form1&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1 ^^^^ This is the one we have.
i got both of mine, the first one and the upgrade (gave the first one to DS & wife) at Kohl's, both on one of the early bird/midnite madness sales at about 1/2 price - what a deal and the money i have saved since far more than just paid for it and the bags:hurray:
