Capt. Richard Phillips was a free man Sunday after jumping overboard and escaping his four Somali captors. A U.S. intelligence official has confirmed that three of his pirate captors have been killed and one has been taken into custody after President Obama gave approval for military intervention. http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2009-04-11-somalia-pirates-us-saturday_N.htm?csp=YahooModule_News
I don't keep in touch with him now, but I've mentioned before that I have a friend from high school who is a Navy Seal and I always wonder if he is one of them when something like this goes down and they complete a mission. Either way, awesome that this is the outcome!
Totaly Awsome. Yea it was just a matter of time. Like they say DON'T MESS WITH THE US. Thae Japaneese once said , We did not win a Victory. We just woke the Sleeping Dragon. Now we just need to get our infrastructure in order and Change Back to the Good Ole U.S.A. instead of the U.S.of Mexico. and stop bieing such wimps. Take charge again and regain our Freedom.
The best of the best.. U.S.Navy Seals.... Here's to you Sherry.... Sea,Air,Land... There is no doubt Sherry....
:hurray::cheers: I mean one shot to kill each pirate and in the dark!!! Amazing. Kudos to the people who train these guys. This has all the makings for a movie.
They ought to run occasional air patrols over the shipping lanes and just start strafing these pirates. Make a few examples into fish food and some of them will probably think twice before heading for these ships. Really there should be a right for these companies to protect their vessels in international waters with deadly force if necessary.
My dad is retired Coast Guard and now works as a civilian attorney at headquarters in DC. I need to chat with him and see if they have anything in the works on their end to change policies etc. I know this is probably more of a Navy thing in that neck of the woods, but would be interesting to check with him anyway.
I personally hope they don't. This Captain truly is a hero! I think Sullenberger cheapened what he did by seeking out all the publicity after his landing in the Hudson.
I don't disagree. The Captain should be praised to no end and then those who rescued him. As for Sullengerger, I don't know about "seeking out" publicity per se. He certainly didn't pull an Octo Mom who is now in the works for a reality series. :ack:
Cmon Hughey... you know how the media works, I doubt seriously that Sully was seeking out these venues as much as they were on him. He does have the right to say no and all, but none the less he earned the right.
I don't see where he sought publicity. In fact, all the interviews I saw, he seemed very humble. He didn't ask for that to happen to his plane. He's a true hero as well, I doubt many would have been as cool under pressure as he was.
He is now listed as a speaker for paid motivational seminars, which is what Hugh may have been referencing.
SO WHAT!!!!!! He deserves it. If he was offered a deal to speak and get paid kudos to him its well deserved. He performed an ultimate miracle...
Well we both have our opinions, we are both entitled to them. My personal opinion is he cheapened what he did by exploiting it.
Ahh...........so teaching and motivating others to work well under pressure makes him a sell out. Okey dokey then. :?
I'm assuming it would be VERY hard to walk away from that kind of money. If I had a chance to secure my family's future in that way I'd take it and not give one care about whether people thought I was cheaponing what I did. Are you saying you wouldn't do that in a situation like that?
