Why do they do that? Why can't they just rent out the civic center or memorial auditorium. Hell, I would pay extra money to not have to sit on the football field in the heat.
And the other problem is what if it rains! They can't fit all those folks in the gym! I don't know - too late to change it now. I would like to know if Wake Co pays to use the civic center. You'd think we could at least use JCC auditorium or something. But then again if all the graduations are on the same night you run into scheduling problems, like they do in WC. I've heard some schools had to start at like 8:30 in the morning....but hey, that would be okay too!
I agree! Hopefully next year when DD graduates they will have found somewhere else to do it. I ain't one to be standing out in the blazing heat.
My problem with the football field is that the folks in the stands ACT like they are AT a football game......seroiusly.....they talk during the speeches or while giving out the diplomas, letting their kids run up and down the stairs remember that it is a metal stadium, it's loud to have anyone walk up & down them much less run) People would not act this way inside, why do they chose to do this outside?
JoCo Schools always does theirs on the football fields. Everyone gets to attend that way. When you start planning it inside somewhere they will start limiting the attendance. I think its only rained out one graduation ceremony in the history of South Johnston. I've heard a lot about Wake Co graduations and I hear its a mess. Its all rushed because they have to have one school out quick so another school can come in.
They still limit the attendance on the fb field, I think its like 5 per family cause the stands are small, (not sure cause haven't gotten that info yet). So I don't see why that should be a factor. I still think that JCC would be better and big enough. Kaiser - I agree, when ds graduated 5 yrs ago, couldn't hear even sitting on the field, so I'm sure it was bad in the stands. DD is this yr, hoping it might be better on the field at least? But I've heard folks act out at the civic center also! A parent told me that with the invitations they got a letter saying that if any family acted up (being too loud etc) that they would be removed.
i didn't realize there was a limit there. We've never had one. We probably had 15 family members at my daughters'graduations a couple of years ago.
Update: for graduation each family gets 4 passes to sit on the field (where the stage is) and 10 bleacher passes. If it rains, only the people w/ field passes get to go in the gym for the ceremony. If a family does not need all their passes they can turn them in to be used by families that need more.
That royally sucks. I really would rather only get 5 total passes and be in AIR CONDITION. I sure hope it's not 100 degrees like it has been in the past.
Not sure, don't remember from last time - maybe an hour - 1.5? The biggest headache is getting there cause the parking and traffic is so bad with all those people and cars! All the kids have to be there early - so you either go when they go or you end up driving separately, thus adding to the parking shortage. Some friends told us last yr they left about an hr ahead of time (they live w/in 5 miles of the school) and that the traffic was so bad that by the time they got in the gates and found a parking space - they almost missed the ceremony!
