Well thank god I'm not a wussy. I was cleaning up the yard to mow it and I had to move a tarp that had blown over from a storm we had a while ago, and that is where it was like 6 inches from my hand :ack:
It turn out to be a young eastern King snake, so he can stay where he is..from what I understand they are the good ones to have in the yard.

Never got to mow, the mower won't start!:ack:

King snakes are the more beneficial snakes to have around the house as they will eat rodents and stuff, but will also eat other snakes as well.

That is what my dad said, cause I was talking to him on the phone while i was trying to get a picture of it, and once I figured out what it was, he was like don't kill it.

(Stephanie, I think I was behind you in carpool this morning...big white van, license plate said 7kidsno$, who else has 7 kids???)

Anyway...no snakes in my yard, but my son found a mouse head in my house the other day (yuck - no body, assuming the cat ate it this weekend while we were gone) and the next day I found a whole dead mouse in my backyard (with the head, so not the same one!) Guess kitty's been having some fun around here lately, no wonder she's getting fat! Dog was actually playing with the mouse when I found it. Totally gross. I know snakes will eat mice, but since I've got a cat, I'd rather have the dead mice than snakes! I DO NOT LIKE SNAKES OF ANY KIND. No matter what any of you say, I don't want them! Oh - and the ticks are out early and they're hungry as well!

A few weeks back we found what we think was a baby copperhead in the driveway. I found it's behavior odd. Instead of trying to flee, the snake froze and did not move.

Any snake that gets close enough to me for me to see what kind it is, is probably going to be a dead snake. I'm all for live and let live, but let them live in the woods, not my yard.

Yep, that's me. Usually NOT in carpool. Stupid son got suspended off the bus for crawling under the seat. Got to love kindergartners. Asked the vp if I could have him clean the bus to learn a lesson. No go. So instead, he thinks it's fine. URGHH. He's grounded at home of course but really wish he'd have gotten punished more at school than to just ride in a car. Oh well. Hopefully next time he won't crawl under the seat. Guarantee you his brother probably made him do it--LOL.

Last year we had a major mouse problem. But not this year. Guess the snakes are catching them all. Geez, what a trade off! Good luck w/ the mice. At least your cat will be full all the time it seems. I don't know if I could handle the headless mouse though. would creep me out. I'm a wimp. I'll be the first to admit it.

    This is a baby copperhead

And they usually have a tendancy of either fleeing as fast as they can or curlling up into a coil and flashing that little yellowish tail around like a rattlesnake would. Copperheads are seldom aggressive, unlike cottonmouths.

So this is a king snake?
I thought they were all black. I've never stayed around long enough to get a good look.

I hate snakes, though I don't kill them, unless they are the type that should be killed. 2 years ago we had several in are yard, all black, one rather large about 5 fee, and several small ones, last year only saw one and none so far this year. We have a lot of cats in the area the last year or so, maybe that why we don't see so many snakes now. Either way I don't like them one bit.

But I could take Stormie out for you to hold......she's a sweetie at about 6 foot long, loves door jambs and ceiling fans, and likes to "puff" in your ear.
