You're right, Ms. NC is being overshadowed by this. I've been listening to her on Hannity as I type, and Ms. CA is really awesome. She made the decision to be true to her beliefs instead of being PC.

I'm all for gay marriage. They should have the same right as the rest of us to be married for 3 years, then have someone who hates them sue for 1/2 of everything!!!!8)

Perez is the small part of the blame for actions like this. The large part is the Americans who watch the shows, buy the papers and magazines, and give habitual support of notoriety in the people who do this.

She should be commended for that! I think more of someone who is honest than someone who is PC.

And the reason she didn't get the crown was b/c the Pageant board picked his dumbarse to be a judge. Not for what she said.

He gives queers a bad name...

Exactly. I agree with your other post, too. If *you* are so comfortable with your lifestlye and choices, why do you need *my* buy in?

Loaded questions have no business in such an event. It's a no-win situation for someone like Miss California. You either are forced to compromise your principles on live television or stand firm and risk persecution. The timing was right for someone to stand and have a voice against gay marriage because there are two sides of the debate. Its a shame that a young woman like her must feel the brunt of attacks on her character, but she should be proud of herself. She has a voice and an opinion, just like this Hilton guy. He obvious sought to put her on the spot to watch her cave in and she stood on her ideals like a rock. He likely knew her position on the subject and would have not had any more respect for her had she danced around the issue.

Good for her...and congratulations to Miss North Carolina!!! One of the main reasons I quit watching those pageants was because it seemed a popularity contest between California, Texas and Florida. Finally, a NC contestant won and seemed the most deserving. I really don't think she won by California's default.

I heard her interviewed earlier and she was saying that Californians want her to turn her crown in because she is not representing them. Sad!

That's so stupid, those people need to get a life! I feel sorry for this young lady - if I was her, I wouldn't want to be associated, much less represent CA. :x

I so wish I could post a response from one of my friends on FB. Knew him in HS. Actually, we went to prom together. Nice guy, no sparks, as apparently he bats for the other team LOL (I had my suspicians, but damn it, I wanted to go to Prom!). Anyway, suprisingly enough, he doesn't believe in gay marriage either. Says marriage is between a man and a woman, same sex relationships have "unions". Said he had a "ceremony" in 2000 and that's what they called it, not a wedding. As long as they have equal rights, it's all good to him. He also didn't think much of Perez Hilton's actions on this. I've got an uncle whose bi and he says the same thing, doesn't believe in gay "marriage". Long story short, live and let live.

And Koo, loved your post, it made me LOL!

But they don't have equal rights. They cannot file a joint tax return, collect on each other's Social Security or most other retirement plans, and a whole host of other issues, some of which can be addressed by legal contracts but many (including those mentioned above) cannot.
To me, that would mean let them get married if they want to.

I wonder if she'll decide to sue?

Miss California Carrie Prejean, blasted by a Miss USA contest judge because she opposes gay marriage, may have grounds for a discrimination lawsuit herself — against the Miss USA pageant, a legal analyst says.

I didn't make myself clear, he wants equal rights under the law, it just doesn't need to be called "marriage" to make him happy. I truly do not know what the right answer is on all this.

Oh, I see. A lot of opponents of gay marriage say that civil unions provide the same rights, but that's not so - not even close. We talk about making it a state issue, and that's fine as far as it goes, but federal law today does not give gay couples the right to file joint tax returns or to collect on each other's Social Security, even if they are legally married in their home state. The Internal Revenue Code specifically states that only a legal marriage between one man and one woman will qualify a couple to file a joint tax return. So they can file their state returns jointly, but not federal tax returns. So giving gay couples equal rights, whether or not the word "marriage" is used, would require some changes in federal law.

Basically, people are making too much out of this. She was asked her "opinion" on a certain matter and gave her honest opinion adding that she meant no disrespect, that should be the end of it. She couldn't have won this argument, either way it would have been the wrong answer and someone would've taken offense to it. She answered the question with honesty whether you agree or disagree.
And just what does that topic have to do with a beauty or talent contest, Holy Freakin Cow, its a beauty contest!

I applaud Miss California for her honest answer. What I don't understand is why was Perez Hilton a judge in the first place. Wasn't this the Miss USA Pageant? Why would a gay man be asked to judge a Miss USA Pageant. A gay man judging a women's beauty pageant? Now that is comical to me.

What would have happened if Miss California was Gay herself.? They would have blasted her and kicked her out of the pagent? So damned if you do and damed if you don't. She can only represent gays but can't be one herself? So she isn't gay, and she gave her honest answer, and couldn't win anyway.

How many judges did they have? If Perez was the only one, it would be a difference maker. But if he was just one of several, it would be nice to hear from them and how it influenced them.

Almost sounds Miss California is trying to tarnish Miss NC's victory anyway she can.
