They should ask each agency to cut back and propose their own cuts.....but that would be too much like the private sector.....can't be having that!

she did, and they did, and she still is doing this now, across the board.

we did this here as well, we had to send in proposals with ways to cut our budgets by 5 and 7 percent. we have also cut office supplies the door is locked and you have to ask for it and then you are given the fifth degree to get it. also no printing of papers unless absolutely necessary.. I mean its tight, some people have already taken cuts as part of the first round of budget cuts and have already taken days.. it was left up to the unit heads on what each department did to save the money, we lost several positions here...

    yes, I do actually....

NC State University (the university system as a whole) has already made arrangements for additional reversions. that means that they are being hit TWICE. They did her original 7%. They laid off employees that have been there for 20+ years. They cut their operating budgets in addition. They have already implemented their plan and now she has decided for them that what they will do that AND now, the across the board furloughs.

The University had planned to revert money, so now she is penalizing them and taking away their ability to plan on how to spend their money. They'll have to revert the money that was squirreled away for this contingency (because she froze everything) and have forced furlough.

The pay cut doesn't seem to be so bad unless my math is wrong. The way I read it the pay cut is a 0.5% of remaining pay for the year. Use the whole year as an example and say you earn $40,000. The pay cut would amount to $200 for the year. Now the big question is...does "the rest of the year" mean fiscal or calendar year. Regardless it would end being less than $200, right?

It says fiscal (on WRAL and the documents they have posted).....so that's May and June....

    Alright...so that's two more full months, right? $40000 / 12 months = $3,333.33 / 0.5% = $16.67.

Not much to get my underwear in a knot about.

double that because we also have to take 10 hours unpaid which will average out to be about the same I believe!

You don't know anyone in any sort of managerial position in state government do you? If you did, you would know what is being asked of them when budgets need to be submitted.
