Since July 4th falls on Saturday this year, I'm thinking about going to one of NC oceans for saltwater fishing (not "way out" to the ocean) near the ocean or river/ocean combination. I'm looking for easy boat ramp, good walking distance from motel to seafood restuarants. Maybe a campground with a small cabin and boat ramp would be ideal. Any ideas? Know any fireworks event area?
Last two times I went -Just went to Bell Island pier which is west of Swanquarter. I camped in a tent at a campground in Ponzer. Riverside Campground. No restaurants out there, though. Could hardly find a bathroom. But Lake Mattamuskeet is also w/n 15 miles. I did some fishing on a canal down there. -In November went to Emerald Isle, Bogue Inlet Pier. There's a motel right behind the pier. I think it's called Bogue Inlet Motel. Ballyhoo's restaurant was right next door. The motel was not that great. I had to change rooms twice because something was broken in the room. The restaurant was pretty good. And there's a breakfast place across the street. I think there's a boat ramp on the south side of the island. People go over to the sound side.
Thanks, Qunicy! I'm also checking some info on Kitty Hawk area. Looks like a nice area. Has anybody been to Kitty Hawk?
I have many times. I grew up about an hour from there. I am not sure it fits your criteria for walking to things plus camping plus water access....but its a great place, a beautiful place. Emerald Isle, Topsail, Southport, Oak Island, Holden Beach, Sunset Beach are all better options for camping/walking to restaurants/fishing, if I had to suggest.
Cake, thanks for keeping your tourist dollars in NC. Many relatives at the coast depend on our keeping the dollars here. Hope your break is a blast!
Hat, shhhh! Should we tell her about *our* spot of the ocean? Notice the avatar? Best fishing in the world. I took that picture last year out there. AND NO I'm not telling. LOL
OH, HECK NO!!!! I like the pic. Noticed it when you changed it. Of course, I thought the prior one was a great one of you. BTW, did you ever read "Shooting at Loons", by Willow Springs author Margaret Maron? She placed this crime mystery in our neck of the woods, traveling from the island over to Beaufort. Great beach laying out read. Her newest one reqads like some of the development posts on 4042, "Deaths Half Acre", and is a great book too.
