http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,518605,00.html There are a lot of things that 10 year olds are curious about but that doesn't mean they get to try them. This mom is an idiot and look where it got her child. Besides the fact...look at the little girl. She looks so fair skinned and had a better chance of burning easily, but clearly the mom is a tanaholic. She looks like an oompa loompa. And now they are going to blame the tanning bed? I don't think coin operated is the best idea for a lot of reasons...hygeine, safety etc. but this is on the mom. And 16 mins. for someone so fair!!!! I don't even burn easy and my first time at 16 mins. would roast me. :banghead:
the tanning salon operator should face the same punishment as the mother. :banghead: I just read again..."unmanned"? who has ever even heard of such?
From what I read it's coin operated. (I think they are in England). I have never heard of such a thing!! So who cleans it and gosh forbid you get stuck in there who the heck helps you. And even though it is coin operated they still should have age limits. So sad for that girl.
I just posted that I read that, after reading again, oops .... WTH??? that's insane! ewwww....naked english women in an unmanned tanning bed....:ack::ack:
Yeah, mom has been in there a few times and probably wanted kiddo to have a cool tan like mom. The mom should have known a 10 year old does not belong in any kind of tanning bed!
Here is another story involving a 14 year old that didn't read the signs As for the 10 year old, the Mom should have gotten more information before she allowed her child to participate. I have a feeling that it was a way of keeping the child in check while the mother did her thing, but I can't say for sure. Just glad that the child wasn't in there any longer then she was.
There's a link on the story that takes you to a more detailed story. It doesn't sound like the mom knew she was going. It says the mom gave her money to go to the fair, but when the girl and her friend got there it was closed. They saw the tanning salon on the way home and decided to try it out of curiosity. Says it was unmanned and this was in South Wales, so their health laws must be much different from ours. Yuck!! :ack: They need to shut those places down.
You're right about the mom not being there although it looks like the daughter sees how obsessed mom is with the tanning booth and probably made her even more curious. I have a feeling they may change these unmanned things - at least I hope!
Me too. I cannot even imagine something so dangerous being available to anyone at any age that just happens by. They said two minutes more and she would have needed skin grafts. So at some point it could cause death.
They MUST have different standards than we do here. Isn't there an age limit here, and they are required to be manned, cleaned, inspected, etc?
It's weird - I just keep thinking about skin cancer. I can't believe a women would let her 10 year old tan. Might as well give her a cigarette while she's at it! There's a price to pay eventually for keeping a dark tan. If it's not cancer, it's looking 10 years older! I say this knowing it might be me one day. I've never been in a tanning bed, but I do lay out sometimes. I just don't overdue it. Being too tan looks freaky anyway.
THAT'S what I was wondering. Life must really be different in the UK. "Ok kids, here is some money. Walk to the fair."
seems they are much more.......laidback and carefree than we are. did you see this......http://wral.m0bl.net/w/strange/story/4155609/
WoW. Yes, laid back... *This* struck me as funny and typical of the stereotype regarding asian tourists.
Might be showing my age but I remember cigarette vending machines being readily available to me. I suspect you will see more controls there in the future.
I once drank too much Coca Cola and got sick, so I am hereby making a public plea that all soft drinks be banned.
