Well, I think I wrote before that we visited First Baptist of Garner and loved it! The next week we couldn't go anywhere because my husband hurt his back at work and couldn't move any last Sunday at all. His back still hurts but he's better. This weekend I was out of town so we've only had a chance to visit one church so far! If we're all well, we are going to try another one next weekend for Mother's Day! Thanks for asking!

  7. Question about Baptist/Free Will Baptist

Just curious - what is the difference between a regular (or Southern) Baptist church and a Free Will Baptist? The only thing I've read about it is that the free will Baptists believe you can lose your salvation if you choose. The Southern Baptists believe that once you're saved, you are always saved. Does anyone know what the differences are (besides the salvation belief)?

I think their beliefs are very similar, its just their worship practices are alot different. 'Most' Southern Bapt do not practice 'speaking of tongues', shouting, jumping etc during worship.

    this may explain more: http://www.nafwb.org/files/images/treatise09.pdf

Free Will Baptist and Baptist is very similar. Free Will Baptist does not speak in 'speaking of tongues', shouting, jumping. I have always been an Orginal Free Will Baptist (37 years)however this past January I left my church that I was a member of along with several others and went on a church search as well. I visited several Baptist, Southern Baptist, etc. I have found the place that they Lord has lead me........Garner Free Will Baptist...... on Hwy 50 and I LOVE it. This is not an orginal but I know this is more Bible believing than where I came from. Believe that women should not be pastors as the Bible says, etc. As well Free Will Baptist do feet washing which is very humble. I have been going now I would say for about 2 months. They have a lot of activities for the children including a Youth Pastor. Feel free to visit. Sunday school has been great as well. At this time the "young adults/parents" are doing a series on parenting. If you have any questions PM me.

  10. So does your church believe "once saved, always saved?" By the way, I think the Pentecostal and Assembly of God churches have speaking in tongues. I grew up the Assembly of God church. I have no problem with that. There just aren't many Assembly of God churches around here. Raleigh is too far for us.

We go to Mt. Zion located in the Cleveland community off Hwy 50. I have been going to the church for about 9 years. We have two services 8:30 and 11:00 with Sunday school at 10:00. There is a nursery and children's church (kids 8 and under)during the sermon. Pastor Leonard is really good with the kids. The people at the church are really nice and make you feel right at home. They have a really good youth program. Here is the website if you would like to check it out.

I think Free Will Baptists don't believe you should dance or go to concerts as well, is that correct? I know that Hilltop FWB has a Christian school and if you attend there you have to agree not to attend concerts and go out dancing. I have listened to their service online a while back and thought it was great, I'm not sure if it's still the same Pastor now or not.

I hope you find what you're looking for, I know it took us a while and I am so glad to be settled somewhere again. It's hard to judge a church by just one Sunday too, you could be there on a week that the Holy Spirit is moving them to do something totally different than an "average" week. I've heard good things about Johnson Memorial Church too. Not sure if that's been mentioned.

  14. Johnson Memorial is a Pentecostal Free Will Baptist church (denomination apparently only around the Johnston and Harnett County area) We've been to Johnson Memorial several times. It just didn't work for different reasons. I actually like the idea of combining Pentecostal and Baptist. About Free Will Baptists, I talked to someone yesterday that is a member of a free will Baptist church. They emphasize being holy including things like no drinking or smoking. He also said that they believe you can lose your salvation. Traditional or Southern Baptists do not believe you can lose your salvation. By the way, Johnson Memorial has an awesome preschool. The teachers are great and they really learn about Jesus.

I believe it is ok for one to speak in tongues as long as someone can interpert it.

No, its ok to wear pants. There may be some churches that may not but most are fine with it at Free Will Baptist.

  19. Shiloh Baptist

Is Shiloh more contemporary or traditional? Do they have a band?
