I heard that the N&O is raising their prices 75 cents for daily and 2.00 for Sunday. I usually go to Walgreens and pick it up for 99 cents. I usually only get it for the funnies and the coupons. But heck I can barely read the funnies with the darn small A$$ print they use now that the went from 6 pages down to 4. Trying to cram so much stuff on it.
Unfortunately you are right. Unfortunately I am afraid that MSNBC, FOX and unedited bloggers will be the news sources of the future and that investigative journalism is dying.
There's a place for newspapers, but their heyday are all but over. They'll be looking at smaller staffs, more shared work and a different take on the news. It really doesn't matter anyway. We're heading for state-controlled media unless change course. Newspapers and magazines often produce more indepth stories than TV stations do.
As long as I can still get my Sunday funnies, In print big enough for me to read, Sunday coupons, and sales flyers I am happy. All the rest I can read on line or get off TV. Sorry but when the words in the funnies are 4pt, There is no point trying to read it with out a magnifying glass.
Curious, is this just your opinion or are you aware of something I am not? Personally I think it is unlikely it will be state-controlled.
I'm not going to pretend Fox doesn't lean more to right than the other MSM outlets, but Fox regularly has liberal guests/journalists on their shows. Do the others have conservative panelists? I honestly don't know.
Oh, its certainly just my opinion. I do believe that there are many political bigwigs that would love to see a tighter reign on what is both published and broadcasted in hopes of controlling more critical points-of-view.
I was in Lowes Foods today renting some movies from Redbox and while we were waiting I saw a posting by the newspapers and it is going up.....I think next week (tomorrow) to 75cents daily and $2 on Sunday.
Jacking up the price on the paper isn't going to save them. I would imagine it will have the opposite effect, much like charging astronomical charges for classifieds. Newspapers are going to be forced to downsize drastically and cut costs while figuring out a way to increase advertising revenue. Of course, the Sunday edition is always desirable for the coupons and circulars...that is when there's something in there worth having.
I got mine at Walgreens for .99 today. I like the funnies and the coupons and we use the rest of the paper for the puppy........ Mike
it was $2 bucks yesterday and the machine had new stickers on it saying $.75 daily and $2.00 Sunday. The N&O is a POS anyways....I just need the coupons.
