    Guys and Dolls,

Coming up on the 34th anniversary of meeting (and falling in love ) with the LOML. Although it'll be on Thursday, 5-21, I was thinking of a nice lunch or dinner.

A friend suggested going to the Bistro at Duplin Winery for lunch on Saturday, which we did years ago, and really enjoyed. I'm thinking of taking her down on the bike, which limits the amount of antiquing and shopping we can do. Got me to thinking, and I kept drawing blank tiles for the Anniversary Celebration version of Scrabble.

    Suggestions?

    TIA..

Well, he could start.... Seriously though, this story often reminds me of Hat and his wife. I could so see him doing something like this for her.

congrats, we are always celebrating around the same time each year:hurray: My 25th wedding anniversary is the 19th (02/19/09 was our 28th since getting together). Have no idea what we are gonna do yet, money kinda put a damper on our earlier plans but we may head to Oak Island for the Memorial Weekend for some alone time. Have you thought about taking her to y'all secret place at the coast. i don't know about her, but the amt of money has nothing to do with it to me, it is the rememberance and the sentimental actions that mean all the world.

    Folks,
    thanks for the support....

As for building...I tip my hat to the Chinese guy. I put together C6's straw bales for gardening..that's pretty much the extent of my building capabilities..lol

I'm thinking of taking her to the coast, and picnicking near where we met. If you folks hear of some unexplained blinding flash of white light that lights up the sky..or reports of some unknown biologic that is stranded on the shore and resisting attempts by the whale savers to return it to the water, you'll know it's me at the beach, after having taken off my shirt.

May be lunch at Duplin, enroute to Atlantic Beach..cut through 24 and take 58 down the beach....

    :grouphug: thanks again..

You know, I have a feeling she will enjoy whatever you do for her. I personally like the beach idea. How about a moonlit (which hopefully the moon will be shinning) picnic on the beach with some wine and cheese, cuddling up under a blanket together....

Oh and be careful...old school, whomever that is, might come on here put a negative spin on things. Think they are just jealous though.

I sincerely hope you two, whatever you decide to do, have a wonderful anniversary and enjoy that special day!! True love prevails!!!

Today, I received a Power Point slide show from a HS classmate of mine. The slide show is ostebsibly a letter attributed to (but actually not written by) an author named Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a Nobel Prize winning author who was diagnosed with cancer. Mr Marquez did, in fact, win the Noble Literature prize in 1982.

Among his many books is, "Love In the Time of Cholera", a story of true love that takes many years to complete its circle. This book is featured in a romanitc comedy, "Serendipity" starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale. It is one of our favorite movies. We actually have several copies of it.

This story is alos one where true love takes some unusual turns and some time to right itself, in spite of the two priniciapls nearly missing each other at all turns.

To my friend, I replied with this letter.
    ....................................................

    Dear Arleen,

You could not know the impact this has had on me, today. Please allow me to share.

Think back to where you were exactly 34 years ago at 4 pm, today, May 21, 2009. There is a picture of you in our annual, because it was taken at the Sr-Jr picnic at Fort Macon. It was there, then, that I met and fell in love with Gwen. She had accompanied Carole Hunt to the picnic.

I wish that I was wiser enough, back then, to realize the treasure I'd been given. I did not. And allowed her to leave.

It took almost 27 years for us to find our way back to each other. 27 years where our paths almost crossed. Once we reunited, we also found a movie that seems to celebrate with us, the zigs and zags of our lives, arriving almost at the same point, almost at the same time, almost at the same place. We'd been at the same places. At different times.

The movie is called, "Serendipity", starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale. It is one of our favorites to this day, and we must have watched it 50 times in 5 years, probably more.

IF you are unfamiliar with this movie, please tell me, so I can send you one of the several copies we have. It's worth sharing with you and Eddie.

What ties this in, though, is that at some point, Kate writes her name in a book and tells John that when the time is right, he'll find the book and know they were meant to be together.

The book is "Love In The Time of Cholera, written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It was recently filmed, only years after Mr Marquez waited until he found the just right director for the film.

You have given me a treasure today, Arleen. I am unable to tell you how much I appreciate it, but I will share this with Gwen, and we'll thank you for it.

    Have a Blessed day.

    Carl
