I think the 4042ers were much more willing to help and be compassionate before some of them got burned. Now, the guard is up.
Here is what's interesting about this thread ... if she posted my husband was laid off ... we're running out of food and can't pay the rent ... there would be someone collecting food and $ for this family to try and help. YET, when she says he's looking for work to help his family ... people blast the effort. :?
Not really, I know I don't just don't go throwing money at people because the may *seem* to need it. No way!! Like PG said, some of us have been burned before and now the guard is WAY up! At least mine is anyway. That's probably obvious. AND ... What I can't afford is for someone to come into MY house and break something or get hurt. What happens when someone who's not licensed gets hurt on the job? I gotta pay because they are careless? I don't think so.
Just a quick update-my husband is working at a small side-job he got from someone on this board yesterday,he is doing some yard work such as pulling weeds etc.,so at least it's not something where he or anyone else will get hurt. I'm sorry that my post caused such an avalanche of replies, but I do understand where it's coming from! I also would like to apologize for having commited grievous spelling errors (job's instead of jobs) but having been born and raised in a foreign country things like misspelling certain words still tend to happen here and there even though I've lived here for quite some time.
If you need a link for him to incorporate a business, I can tell you all about it and how it works. It's not expensive at all and depending on WHAT type of odd jobs he's doing the insurance shouldn't be that bad either. There are different tiers. Look lady, I'm not trying to be the biggest Enlightened person on the planet, but there are businesses who PAY for advertising on the board for a reason. Good Luck to ya'll. HG o-u-t
Glad to hear that he found some work. Maybe that will lead to more work for him in the future. No need to apologize for typos. Lord knows we all make them!
she didn't come on here asking for food or money. she came on here advertising for work. big difference.
All I'll say is that I warned against this kind of thing happening way back and got totally blasted for it. I hate to say I told you so. 8)
Annette, I do wish you and your hubby well. I don't like to see anyone in a bind. I am pretty neutral on this topic because I wasn't one of the ones burned before and I don't start crap. I just wanted to maybe let people see both sides, ya know. Our neighborhood kid does odd jobs for us because I think he's a great kid and is earning honest money for himself and his family. He is not license nor insured (and a minor) so I'm sure I would be up the creek if he got hurt. I am taking a chance. On the same token, he did mess up something at my house (minor stuff and no big deal) but he insisted on making up for it since I refused to let him pay lilke he wanted to. I'm just sayin'....I see both sides.
Exactly, which is against the posting guidelines. I will also go a step further and say had she come on here asking for food or money you can guarantee she would have had to *know* somebody on here and be vouched for before those things were just given to her. Lots of scam artists out there, whether they are in need or not.
My point is that once word gets out that people are getting jobs/money/food from posting on this board they are going to come and try it. I don't blame them. You help one and people are going to expect you to help all, which as much as we may try is not really realistic and why the Christmas Angels is a great idea. And there will be folks that really need the help and won't get it because people don't trust them and I remember people telling me that wasn't an issue the last time it came up and obviously it has proven to be one. [And most people I'm sure don't even realize it's against the rules because it should be moved to the top of the list that I am sure most people scan anyway.] I guess the only answer would be for someone to send a polite PM when something like this comes up and tell them that they need to post elsewhere.
hehehe, she said polite, guess you forgot you are talking about the 4042 board, huh VG:jester::lol::lol::lol:
