I know that this HAS to have been discussed before, but I'm still making my way when it comes to learning about local places that are either "mom and pop/family owned" versus throwing away money (and possible other great referrals to various places) to corporate retailing. Having been raised in the deep south on a farm I also really do believe that one hand shakes another, and that local businesses/farmers/co-ops/nurseries take more time and care when it comes to their products, customer service, etc. I know that my own children will most likely only believe that road side stands and bartering are insane and down right "too involved" as a recently described by a neighbor (had to laugh at that one). That being said, I'd suppliment any individual that is out there breaking their backs or sweating out the last bit of energy just to keep a working farm/store/restaurant/business alive. And with our economy these days...hard work is harder and harder to find!:-(

I pass by local businesses every day that have mulch and compost, and since I really hate buying bagged soil or anything like it, I have decided that I wouldn't even begin to entertain the idea of it this year. We moved into our new construction home about a year ago, and since I completed all of the internal "projects," I am finally getting around to the outdoor landscaping.

I need a good recommendation for mulch and or compost that will deliver off of Cleveland School past Polenta Elementary and right before the Methodist church. I have a few beds that I want to create, so I'm going to need a fair amount.

I don't even know the "going rate" for these types of materials around here, so before I even get started I wanted to see if anyone could also give me a rough estimate about what is average for this area.

Also, as a sort of "ps"...does anyone know if the county has any type of mulch or compost that they provide? In AR we had a few different outlets via the county, but I was very good friends with many farm owners, and many times I was able to pick up cow "compost" for my outdoor endevors. My sons and I are going to build our own "compost," but in the interum...

Thanks ahead of time! I really appreciate it!!:hurray::cheers::allears:

We have used Triangle Landscaping for deliveries of topsoil/compost mix and have created lots of raised flower beds. The charge was $23.00 per cubic yard delivered. A truck is 10 cubic yards. They have a very helpful website to figure out what you may need.

I know Wake county has a leaf mulch program but I think it's only for residents.
