I am so confused right now. I have heard nothing about my sons tests. How is everyone finding out so soon? My son is so nervous about these tests.

I don't know how that could happen--every night it was all my son was talking about--he was freaked out because he needed a "special breakfast" for the tests. His teacher told him he should not play his baseball game on an EOG night. The school was on basic lock down to make sure it was quiet. I knew he would do fine but there was no way not to mention it with the amount on emphasis put on it at school

Heck, ours went so far as to tell the kids they must bring a "healthy" snack! I do that anyway........but didn't much appreciate it. :?

My youngest did insist on a healthy breakfast, which I consider a plus. It drove home the point that the brain needs healthy food as much as the body does. He's a super picky eater. Ugh. "super picky" doesn't begin to describe it but that's another thread. But anytime mine brought it up I did my best to distract them from any tension they may have had over it. We had ice cream, went out to eat.. bowling.. special trip to the gas station for a treat which is special to them. I think I did a good job keeping them distracted from the stress. For the tests I told them to take their time, think it through and breathe! I told them that only twice when they brought it up.

Other than that it was all :chillpill:

Teach the test, teach the test, teach the test, teach the test... How could one fail when this is all they do all school year? How could one fail calculator active multiple choice?

To the one who said their 4th grader's class is having an ice cream party, and the ones who failed don't get to pick their toppings??? Are you serious?? Boy, that is a slap in the face! I highly doubt any of the kids failed on purpose, I'm sure they all wanted to pass, and probably tried their hardest, especially with all the emphasis put on it for the past month. That is just mean. It's bad enough (but I understand why they do it) that the ones that failed have to go to remediation, so everyone in class knows who failed.

I would keep my kid out of class that day and take them out for ice cream with all the fixings.

It boggles my mind that the school lets this happen and any teacher thought it was a good idea. You don't have any sort of party and let the parents treat their kids if they do well. Oh that just ticks me off and would let someone know how I felt.

Surely there is some confusion and a loss in translation from child to parent. This just can't be true.

That's what he said. He told me twice on different days... I hope he's wrong.

In the classes I was involved with today.

Proctored this morning. Helped classes have a stress reduction day. Each child got about the same amount of ice cream. I know, as I was the official Olympic ice cream scooper/server. There were a variety of toppings. There was no mention of who passed/who did not, adn there was no correlation to toppings based on pass/fail. Toppings were awarded, based on test strategies that the students implemented. Wrote formulae and notes on blank paper, used a highlighter appropriately, circled the correct answer in test booklet and "x'd" out incorrect choices, and others. Used calculators. (Some kids chose to not use their calculator. I hope their math skills are up to par.) Went back and rechecked answers and bubble darkening alignment..and other choices.

Was this your idea or the teachers?

I hope their math skills are up to par as well. What is the point of math in school, to teach them to use calculators? ;)

I just heard about a little girl that cried all night because she didn't pass. The pressure wasn't coming from her parent. This sucks. And I want to add, the parent is VERY involved. I don't want to hear any crap about it being the parents fault.
