I ordered pizza from Domino's this weekend and they added a $2 delivery fee. I did not tip the driver when he came because I felt like that $2 was enough. What do you guys think? Should I have tipped on top of the delivery fee?
I do, but I always tip when food is involved, especially if that individual might deliver my food again in the future.
We have tipping issues in our house. DH is a BIG tipper. But I'm like you, they're already charging a delivery fee. ... The least we've tipped the pizza guy is $5. Last Christmas I tipped the driver $10 or $12. He was an older man and I bet working to make extra Christmas cash. ...tis the season...
It's funny you should bring this up. I complained about that fee, and they told me it was due to rising costs, blah blah blah. I asked if it went to the driver and they said no. So, if you don't tip, the driver gets sqwat, and they already have to pay for their own gas, etc. I have this fear of them doing nasty things in my pizza, so I always tip or I just go pick it up myself.
You make a very good point. I will definitely tip next time. Better yet, I will just get my pizza from somewhere that doesn't charge a delivery fee.
I think the $2 charge is a ridiculous practice by the pizza companies. I'd just as soon have an extra 2 bucks tacked on top of the pizza as opposed to leaving the extra charge subject to interpretation and potentially depriving the driver or a tip.
way to jack up the price I just called Domino's because my usual tip is $ 2-3. The young man told me that it goes back to Domino's. The employees told the company that was not the way it should be but they were trying to stay competitive and didn't want it to actually show they raised the price. So I would say the driver should get a tip as he is not reimbursed for his gas. I had two sons who delivered for them back in the day so was being nosy:x
Yes a very good point! I thought the driver got some of it at least! Now that I know I'll be a better tipper. 8)
If memory serves, they started that $2 fee back when gas was higher than it is now. Of course, they didn't drop it when the price went back down. :?
I don't order from them as often as I used to, as a matter of fact. Is there a particular reason you are singling me out in this entire thread? Or am I just "special" today?
LOL.....no in fact I didn't notice your name until after I posted and figured it might earn a response.
Let's all boycott Dominos and send them a link to this thread. It's total BS that they charge us $2 to deliver and don't give the driver any of the $. I wouldn't work for them for that very reason. Screw them.
I used to manage a pizza restaurant. Not dominoes but did delivery. Back then, we never had a delivery fee but if there is, I'm 100% certain, it is NOT going ot the drivers. Drivers get paid the regular wage plus earn tips from delieveries. They are also reimbursed for gas & maintenance but that doesn't account for squat. Trust me on that one. My drivers had much wear and tear on their cars. Drivers know they'll be soem good tips and some bad ones. However, they usually aren't going to do anything "crazy" to your order next time if you don't tip good. REason being, you never know which driver is going to end up working that house. Different drivers, different days & different areas. I wills ay this though, the drivers always knew which houses consistently left bad tips--LOL. Good luck & I always hate deciding on tipping. I never know how much...haircuts, pizzas, carwashes, etc. Drives me nuts. Stephanie--mom to 7
