House finch eggs: Robin eggs: Most birds lay one egg each day, and then begin to incubate them all when they are done laying, so they will all hatch at the same time.
Hmmm I wonder if the finches are what built a nest in my welcome wreath on my door? I will have to look at the pics of the eggs again.
Another possibility is a Carolina wren (notice how the tail sticks up, that's a good way to identify them even if you don't get a very good look) or a house sparrow: That's a male house sparrow pictured; the female doesn't have the black mark under the chin. House sparrows will build nests anywhere - in the garden section at Lowe's; in the letters on the front of Wal-Mart; in bluebird boxes. I chase them away and remove their nesting material when I see them around my bluebird box. It's easy to tell the nests apart. House sparrows build messy looking nests with all kinds of stuff; bluebirds build very neat nests of grass or pine straw.
The wrenn I have every year has been hatched for about a month now so not sure if they're all on that schedule but it probably is the sparrow.
I love birds generally, but house sparrows I could do without. And cowbirds. BTW, if you like wrens, click on the Carolina wren link in my post above. It's a great story from Hilton Pond in SC.
Birds are cool... now this wrenn I had build its nest somewhere I didn't want and I moved it but wasn't sure what would happen and it still tended to it till the eggs hatched... I will check that thread... I do favor the mocking bird...
I like mockingbirds, too. They don't usually come to seed feeders, but they do eat a combination of equal parts peanut butter, lard (not vegetable shortening), and cornmeal. I spread it onto an open pine cone and hang it in a tree or on a shepherd's hook.
Good, come get the nocturnal one that lives outside my bedroom window and won't shut up till the sun comes up.
They are quite noisy... and they have no time clock to it, I've had them making quite a racket at 2-2:30 am on several occasions...:lol:
