No, I don't wonder that at all. You have demonstrated that you are a free market fundamentalist, blind to any flaws whatsoever in unregulated capitalism. We see both the good and bad in the way markets work, and believe ordinary people deserve some protection from the excesses that will occur in the absence of regulation.

Every system has flaws. What you fail to realize is there will always be winners and losers. As soon as you create a system that attempts to prevent losers, you won't have any winners which means everyone loses. That is a very simple example but true nonetheless.

 

Why would you even care? His wife and children are probably aware of this, it's hard to hide, and if he is going out in public - like to the mall, he's definitely not hiding it and why should he? Cause it makes YOU uncomfortable?

Look, to each his own - whatever gets him through his day. Everyone should be themselves and be allowed to be, provided they aren't physically harming anyone, or anyone's right to their livelyhood.

I would gladly trade neighbors with you - I have the vandal-types, the noise makers, the trespassers, the animal neglectors. . .I'd be happy to have your cross-dressing neighbor as one of mine.

Who are we to judge in cases like this? I don't think it is our place, it's up to God to do that.

 

I think I answered that from my view earlier in the thread.
Personally I still think it's weird and potentially harmful to the kids. But this is exactly why I posted the thread. I wanted to get opinions of others. Opinions are never wrong. We may not agree with each others opinions, but they are all valuable and we can learn from each other.

I don't think any of my other neighbors are vandals, so I'll gladly keep the friendly cross dresser. I'm glad you offered that perspective.

This person actually underwent a sex change about 5 or 6 years ago (maybe?). A lot leads up to this sort of procedure including hormone injections and prolonged lifestyle changes. That is why you probably saw the change over time. This is how I noticed it as well. I was confused at first since he would mow his lawn and then his wife was mowing the lawn (or at least what I thought was his wife).

His wife and kids are obviously aware of it and I would imagine support him 100% otherwise they'd be gone. They are a good family as near as I can tell, keep their house up, and I think had a local business for a while.

I'll admit it is a bit unnerving at first due to the obvious male traits left behind. He's a nice guy.

Thanks Harvey - There a couple of details in your response (that I'm not going to post) that lend me to believe that we are referring to different individuals. But your experienced thoughts will certainly help me when I see him the next time.

I can't say that I agree this is "potentially" harmful to the children. This guy may be a wonderful parent ... even if he is a little different from the average joe. This guys kids may learn that it's ok to follow your dreams ... even it they are not the same dreams everyone else has. This guys kids may learn to be themselves ... rather than following the crowd. It is possible that this guy's kids may become the butt jokes made by intollerant bullies who weren't raised to treat everyone with respect & kindness. However, it wouldn't be this guy's fault that others didn't raise their children correctly. If you thought this guy was a kind decent individual before you saw him dressed in a frilly shirt ... then hopefully you can still think the same of him.
I always hope people will judge me for the person I am rather than the clothes that I wear. I'm sure that seeing him dressed in women's clothing may have taken you off guard to begin with ... but hopefully you will be able to move past that and still be as neighborly as you had been in the past.

 

I agree we shouldn't be discussing this with the possibility of the man/woman reading this thread. I mean how many crossdressers could there be in Johnston County?!
