:iagree: Racism is alive and well in the north too!! I don't know how old you are but if you had not heard the "n" word until you moved down here, you must have grown up living in a bubble up north because I am sure, unfortunately, that that horrible word is alive and well in the north as well. IMO, there are rednecks and racists everywhere, but in general, the friendliest people live in the south!!!!

  4. I agree - Some of the most racist people I know are from the North. We had a neighbor that moved from here from New York and he used the "n" word on more than one occasion. Not only that, he really thought he was better than any other race. So, I know there are racists everywhere. The South just gets a bad rep.

but don't you see that it's people like you who perpetuate that? armed with the facts, you still reach a false conclusion...

  6. I give up...I'm not explaining myself one more time on this thread!!! I'm the last person anyone would call racist. I have no conclusion...I have an opinion. How many times have I said that?

yes you are being very prejudiced. turning your nose up at and talking trash about rednecks is no better, actually its kind of hypocritical.
btw, i bought a tshirt this weekend and it has a rebel flag on it.

CrazyMom - the fact that it bothered you when it was near that woman tell me that you have a big heart. You have every right to hate the flag if you so choose. I'm not a redneck and the flag doesn't bother me. To me it's nothing more than someone with an I 'heart' NY bumper sticker. I understand though how those with roots touched by slavery would harbor a deep hatred for anything even remotely associated with it.

Slavery was an unfortunate fact of our past. We can't change it. I understand that some people associate the flag with slavery but I think the majority of people today just fly it because they really embrace and and want to announce their redneckisity.

There are definitely rednecks in the north. The biggest difference is that the southern rednecks know it and are proud of it. The northern rednecks haven't figured out why they are different yet and this make them angry. :)

I have a question for you liberals - How do you choose which topics to say - "to each his own"? It seems that you pick and choose when to apply this self proclaimed rule of life.

I don't think a handle that long is allowed. :jester:

  12. Okay, maybe I will! I did admit I prejudiced against people who fly that flag. I guess it's one of my many character flaws.

  13. I'm also prejudice against people who wear pants that are too tight or people who take up 2 spaces in a parking lot.

i didn't say you were a racist. i said you were helping to perpetuate the bad rap that the south gets in that area by continuing to insist that the flag is racist when you've been shown that it isn't, unless it is being MISUSED. now i'm the one who gives up. you're entitled to your opinion, but if it insults someone's ancestry with outright lies, expect people to feel just as entitled to call you on it.

this is why most people have the stars and bars on their vehicles and not the battle flag. because the rest of the world aren't educated enough to know the difference between it and texas or something. would you feel bad for that lady if a guy pulled up and flew a big first national flag instead? no, because you don't know enough about it to even know what it is.

Crazymom ,it takes a strong person to step up and claim prejudice as one of their many character flaws, to you

When I first moved to Clayton, I lived in a neighborhood in which one guy had the original "stars and bars" flying on his front porch. As I was out running one day, I looked over to him and said "nice flag."

He looked at me and said, "I bet you are the only person on this street that knows..." We both laughed.

The next time I ran, I noticed he had black families on either side of him.

Girl me too! I feel like making little notes to leave on cars that explain that it's not hard to make sure you are between the lines when you park in the deck at my work.

    Anyway, carry on all.

FWIW, I would suspect anyone wanting to show heritage would fly a correct flag, either the stars and bars, the battle flag, or one of the other possible choices. The ones flying the modern version of the rebel flag are generally making another statement, IMO.

  20. Like I said before, I'm not explaining myself again. We share a different opinion. As a proud southern girl, I do apologize if I insulted your ancestry.
